Well folks, it is that time of year again; the time when your favorite shows are either nominated or shunned, either win or lose. The 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards airs on September 16th at 8pm on Fox. Here is a list of all the major category nominees, my prediction for who will take home the statue and who should actually be the one to win.
Outstanding Comedy Series:
30 Rock- NBC
Entourage – HBO
The Office- NBC
Two and a Half Men- CBS
Ugly Betty- ABC
This one is a tough one because all of these shows are really great. My pick would have to be 30 Rock. It is just an unbelievably funny show and the actors are amazing. However, I think that The Office, which seems to be an awards favorite, will ultimately take it.
Outstanding Drama Series:
Boston Legal- ABC
Grey’s Anatomy- ABC
The Sopranos- HBO
Heroes is the show to beat on this one. This show has become a surprise hit and they will more than likely take the award. I would go with House, though. Hugh Laurie is an amazing actor, and each season he and the show get better and better.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series:
Alec Baldwin- 30 Rock- NBC
Rick Gervais- Extras- HBO
Steve Carell- The Office- NBC
Charlie Sheen- Two and a Half Men- CBS
Tony Shaloub- Monk- USA
Although Tony Shaloub has always been a favorite for this category, I think this year Alec Baldwin will take it. He has shown his acting abilities in both serious and comedic roles, but his character in this show is a definite career high for him. I’m sure he will win in this category and I definitely think he deserves to win.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series:
Kiefer Sutherland- 24- Fox
James Spader- Boston Legal- ABC
Hugh Laurie- House- Fox
Denis Leary- Rescue Me- FX
James Gandolfini- The Sopranos- HBO
I think Hugh Laurie has this one all the way. As I said before he is an amazing actor and definitely deserves to take home the Emmy.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series:
Tina Fey- 30 Rock- NBC
Felicity Huffman- Desperate Housewives- ABC
Julia Louis Dreyfuss- The New Adventures of Old Christine- CBS
America Ferrara- Ugly Betty- ABC
Mary- Louise Parker- Weeds- Showtime
I think this one will go to Mary- Louise Parker, but America Ferrara is a favorite for me. She took on a role that completely transformed her into the ugly duckling and came out looking more beautiful than ever. She definitely deserves to win.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series:
Sally Field- Brothers and Sisters- ABC
Mariska Hargitay- Law and Order: SVU- NBC
Patricia Arquette- Medium- NBC
Kyra Sedgwick- The Closer- TNT
Minnie Driver- The Riches- FX
Edie Falco- The Sopranos- HBO
This one is a toss up between Minnie Driver and Kyra Sedgwick. Although Mariska Hargitay has been a favorite in this category in the past, I think it is definitely Kyra Sedgwicks turn. I would love to see her take it.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series:
Jeremy Piven- Entourage- HBO
Kevin Dillon- Entourage- HBO
Neil Patrick Harris- How I Met Your Mother- CBS
Rainn Wilson- The Office- NBC
Jon Cryer- Two and a Half Men- CBS
Although it will be a close one between Jeremy Piven and Neil Patrick Harris, I definitely think that Harris will take, and I’m definitely rooting for him.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series:
William Shatner- Boston Legal- ABC
T.R. Knight- Grey’s Anatomy- ABC
Masi Oka- Heroes- NBC
Terry O’Quinn- Lost- ABC
Michael Emerson- Lost- ABC
Michael Imperioli- The Sopranos- HBO
Although I totally see Masi Oka taking this one for Heroes, I think that T.R. Knight should be the one to win.
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series:
Jaime Pressly- My Name Is Earl- NBC
Jenna Fischer- The Office- NBC
Conchata Ferrell- Two and a Half Men- CBS
Holland Taylor- Two and a Half Men- CBS
Vanessa Williams- Ugly Betty- ABC
Elizabeth Perkins- Weeds- Showtime
I see Jaime Pressly taking this one, hands down. She has showed how incredibly funny she can be on My Name Is Earl and her performance has definitely proven her worthy of an Emmy.
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series:
Rachel Griffiths- Brothers and Sisters- ABC
Sandra Oh- Grey’s Anatomy- ABC
Chandra Wilson- Grey’s Anatomy- ABC
Katherine Heigl- Grey’s Anatomy- ABC
Lorraine Bracco- The Sopranos- HBO
Aida Turturro- The Sopranos- HBO
Rachel Griffith is the favorite to take it in this category, but if I had my choice I would give it to Katherine Heigl. Call me biased after seeing her in Knocked Up, but I think she is a great actress and deserves to be recognized for it.
So there you have it folks. Be sure to tune in to the Emmy’s on September 16th to see how accurate I was and to root for your favorites.
