It’s only just recently I moved to the Midwest to learn what a real blistery, frigid winter is like. Before moving to the Chicago area I lived in the south and traveled from southern Georgia to South Carolina with very little variance in the temperature. During the summers the heat would be sweltering with a heat index that would cause the temperature to be 110 degrees. The days would begin with such ferocity that by the time I walked to the driveway and strapped the kids into their car seats I would be perspiring with my clothes sticking to me.
The humidity was so thick it was hard to breath and any make up I was wearing was already beginning to melt off of my face. Even with foundation and powder I could feel the sheen that is created from oil and the only thing that would not run or smudge was my mascara. After living in the South for eight years I became very particular and nearly obsessive about the mascara I wear. I love very black mascara that lengthens and gives volume to eyelashes. Lastly, it has to be waterproof so it does not smear with perspiration. With this said; here are my top picks for the three best waterproof mascaras on the market.
Max Factor 2000 Calorie Aqua Lash is great waterproof mascara. It does not clump and has a gel based lash builder. Even with the volumizing power the fibers did not break off into my eyes. The brush on the wand is straight and the mascara brushes on very smoothly and evenly. It thickens and lengthens the lashes nicely and is suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers. The colors available are rich black and black brown. I prefer the rich black which is very dark. The average cost is between $8-$10 depending on the retailer.
CoverGirl Professional Remarkable Waterproof Mascara is another choice for mascaras that is smudge proof. It stays on the lashes very well creating lashes that look very rich and thick with a straight wand. It comes in two colors which are black brown and very black. The reason for the name “Remarkable” is because the mascara darkens and defines lashes all day and washes away with soap and water. It is also a good choice for contact lens wearers and is suitable for someone with sensitive eyes. The average cost is $5-$7 depending on the retailer.
L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Waterproof Volume Building Mascara is my top choice of the three. I have used all of these but this is the tried and true mascara that is best for my lashes. It separates the lashes very nicely creating a thicker lash appearance making them look extremely long. This mascara is marketed as creating 4X fuller lashes and it is true for me. My lashes are very long but not thick so this is a great product to create a luscious lash look. This mascara is clump resistant and has proven to be smudge proof. The mascara goes on smoothly and evenly with a very thick bristled straight wand. It does not flake and can be worn by those who have sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses. It comes in four colors: black, blackest black, black brown and soft black. The only slight disadvantage to this mascara is once it is on, it’s on. Pond’s Cold Cream is the best product to use when trying to remove this mascara from the lashes. The average cost is $6-8 depending on the retailer.
Everyone has their favorites so it’s hard to break the habit of using the same items but if you are looking for great lashes at a great price these are some nice options.
