30 minute meals is a comedy show right? I apologies for my tongue in cheek attitude. If I had the marketing folks, prep cooks, research assistants, and sponsors I too would be a star cook on the Food Network.
Let me tell ya a story about a person that daily feeds a hungry army in 30 minutes or less. She also does trigonometry, geography, and spelling homework, starts a load of laundry, and mends a broken heart in the same 30 minutes. Before starting this 30 minuet meal she has worked an eight hour job for wages, coached a soccer team of ten year old children that had giggle soup for lunch, and did the marketing on the way home. Some call this super woman Mom, all stand in awe when she stands on the sidelines cheering “that’s my child.”
Earlier today, before sunrise, she had put last night’s leftover chicken, a few vegetables, a bit of rice and some caned chicken stock into the crock pot for an interesting stew for supper. Unlike the original 30 minute meal host she also bakes. Our hero has baked cup cakes and frosted them for todays after school snack. The folks at Dole have provided the shredded cabbage, pineapple tidbits, raisins, and a great dressing to make an easy Cole slaw that this army all loves, it is chilling ready to serve tonight.
Tonight Mom is baking Buttermilk biscuits. Teaching the oldest son the craft and the necessity of accurate measurements as she goes. The youngest is unloading the dishwasher and learning to put like things together. The middle two children are both learning the patience of ironing a shirt in a precise manner. The entire kitchen is alive with the banter of family working together, sharing the joys and challenges of this day.
The phone rings. For just a second the super hero becomes a young girl again, giggling and blushing. She wipes a tear and calls the children one by one to talk with Dad from far away on a sand pile. You see this Dad works for Uncle Sam and he has a war to finish before he can come home.
Later that night our super mom has finished her day. She thanks God for the strength to do her best one more time. She thanks God for her children and her husband. She drifts off to sleep wondering if she locked the front door.
This scene is replayed day after day in thousands of homes in the United States of America. Each one of these super moms does it in 30 minutes meals spiced with love. So Rachel Ray I’m sorry your just a high paid rookie showing off, watch a team of Mom’s do it everyday, most days they would love to do it backwards and in high heels.
