Day 10-May 6, 2007
I slept relatively well last night and was and to see morning arrive. Breakfast was cheerios, bread, syrup, salami, milk and Kool-aid. Five girls got into a fight this morning and it took around 12 officers to get all of them subdued and returned to their cells. One of the girls was taken back downstairs to receive a new charge for assaulting an officer. She was originally sentenced to 30 days and has now been here for 180. The extra 150 days is all new charges that she has received for fighting while she is here. After breakfast we were put back into our room and I read until 9:15 am.
My entire body hurts from the bed. A straw mattress on a concrete slab doesn’t do much in the way of padding your body and all my bones ache.
I put a letter in the mail to mom today and asked her to send me some stamps so that I can continue to write to her. I went to church today, which was led by an inmate.
Lunch today was bologna and cheese sandwiches, potato salad, green bananas, angel food cake and Kool-aid.
The jail building itself is shaped like a U and where the two sides face each other you can see the men’s pod across the way. The men sit up in the windows for hours and masturbate and have themselves a great time. In the jail they put a chemical into the Kool-aid that is intended to diminish your sexual desire. Because of this, the men can’t obtain a full erection and can go on masturbating for hours.
We got out of our cells at 4 pm and had dinner consisting of spicy chicken patty sandwiches, mashed potatoes and gravy, beans, green bananas, and Kool-aid. We got locked back right after dinner because people still have not learned the concept of being quiet. The officer kept us locked back for 30 minutes so that we could “cool down” and then at 6:45 we were put back on lockback.
Two girls got into a screaming match and had to be separated while I was trying to talk to mom on the phone. They were roommates but one of them had to be moved. I yelled at my roommate tonight and told her to sit down and shut up. I complained about her when we got let back out at nine and they say that they will make a note for room movements tomorrow night. The terrible thing is when I asked for a grievance form for room 36, one of the officers said “Oh, the nasty girl’s room.” If they know that she is so nasty why don’t they put her in a single room?
At 10:45 pm we were put back on lockback and I pray for a good night’s sleep that will lead to…day 11.
