If you are looking for ways to celebrate the 4th of July in Louisville, Kentucky, there are several things you and your family can do. Here’s a list of three popular events held in the city.
Waterfront Independence Festival
This event is celebrating its 10th year and is FREE. However, with both reduced donations and city financial support, this year’s event will be a little bit different than in years past. The events start at 5:00 pm on July 3 and July 4. The fireworks shows start at 10:30 pm on July 3 and 10:15 pm on July 4. Country singers Joe Nichols, Steve Wariner and J.D. Shelburne perform on July 3 while Lyris Born, the Greyboy Allstars and the Ohio Players perform on the 4th.
Radio Disney will cut back on some of the children’s activities but there will still be arts and crafts, some inflatables and games.
You may bring blankets, chairs, umbrellas, unopened bottle water and blankets.
Do NOT bring glass containers and cans, coolers, pets, skateboards and weapons.
Parking is available on the street, downtown garage or in the Waterfront Park lots.
Fourth of July Celebration in Crescent Hill
Crescent Hill is celebrating its 26th Annual Old Fashioned Fourth of July at the beautiful Peterson-Dumesnil House. Activities start at 8:00 am on July 4 and fireworks start around 10:00 pm. Starting at noon on the 4th and 10:00 am on the 5th, there will be plenty of music, including pop and classic, rock and dance, jazz and bluegrass and gospel.
As usual, there is a food court which operates from 10:00 am – 10:00 pm, trolley rides which are free from noon to 10:00 pm, cake wheel starting at Noon, and a plant sale which also starts at noon. A silent auction will be held with items on display. Bidding will be open from Noon to 6:00 pm on Saturday. Payment can be made in cash or by check.
A 5K run will be held on the 4th with registration at 7:00 am. The cost of the race is $18 (on race day), and kids under ten are just $6.00. There is also a antique car parade which leaves the Masonic Home at 11:30 and enters the festival grounds moments later.
4th of July Fireworks Cruise
On July 3, both the Belle of Louisville and the Spirit of Jefferson will cruise down the Ohio with a fire works show as the feature.
