It would be so easy to fill the list of the least five frightening movies every made with horror film sequels. Too easy. This list skips the Jason X an Nightmare sequels, including them would have been too easy. Unfortunately, some movie studio brainiacs actually made even more less than frightening movies from these five least frightening movies ever made.
#5 Least Frightening Movie Ever Made: Leprechaun
Original Advertising Tagline: “Your luck just ran out.”
How can a Leprechaun every be scary?
In addition to being one of the least frightening movies, it is also one of the worst movies ever made. Even worse than Plan 9.
#4 Least Frightening Movie Ever Made: The Village
Original Advertising Tagline: “Run. The truce is ending.”
If there were any truth in advertising, the tagline would have read, “Run and find a truly scary movie.”
The problem with The Village is that it did not live up to its movie trailers. The trailers would have you believe that M. Night Shyamalan created a very scary movie. In reality, The Village was also predictable, and not at all interesting, never mind scary.
#3 Least Frightening Movie Ever Made: Christine
Original Advertising Tagline: “Some Cars Are Born Bad.”
Okay. Stephen King is hit or miss for me. Love The Shining, appreciate Carrie, laughed at Christine. It was a tough call, because Cujo, also courtesy of Stephen King should be sitting right here next to Christine. Evil car, evil dog, hey, now that might have made a scarier film. Because let’s face it, no matter what your car does or how it misbehaves, it certainly isn’t evil.
#2 Least Frightening Movie Ever Made: The Ring
Original Advertising Tagline: “Before you die, you see the ring.”
We were really excited to watch The Ring. After seeing it, I am still waiting for the scary parts. Was The Ring sort of creepy? Yes. But so was the naked Harvey Keitel in The Piano.
The Ring may have had some creepy elements, and some interesting visuals (not) but it was also one of the least scary movies ever made.
This was also one of the most disappointing movies ever.
#1 Least Frightening Movie Ever Made: The Blair Witch Project
The number one least frightening movie ever made was The Blair Witch Project.
Original Advertising Tag line: “The scariest movie of all time is a true story.”
The scariest thing about this movie was that so many people believed it was true. Why? Because the movie says so. Well, the Coen Brothers claim the same thing at the beginning of Fargo.
Another scary aspect of this least frightening film is how popular it was when it first came out in 1999. It’s all anybody was talking about. For about a weekend.
If you never, ever, ever see The Blair Witch Project, the least frightening movie of all time, you can thank me.
