Summer is the perfect time of year to be in Pittsburgh. The days are long and the weather is warm and sunny. There is no better way to spend the day than at one of the many local swimming pools. There are many pools to enjoy from the exciting wave pools to relaxing Mineral Beach to the many local community and neighborhood pools.
The Pittsburgh area is home to three wave pools in Settler’s Cabin Park, South Park and Boyce Park. The wave pools open on the first Saturday of June and remain open through Labor Day. The wave pool is an exciting way to enjoy the water on a hot summer day. Waves begin forming at intermittent times throughout the day. A bell sounds to let you the waves are starting. Rafts are available for rent. The shallow end is great for young children. There are no steps into the pool and kids can sit at the edge and enjoy the soft waves as they break at the shore. For those with more of a sense of adventure, hop on your raft, paddle out the middle of the pool and ride the huge waves to the shore. Hours of operation are 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM daily. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $4.00 for junior, $3.00 for youth and $1.00 for children. Group discounts and season passes are available. You can walk into the pool the same way you would walk into the ocean. This large and well maintained pool is the perfect pool for children of all ages. The sloped sides are perfect for small children and sun worshippers. All rafts, floaties and pool toys are welcome. Mineral Beach is open from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM daily, weather permitting.
