I heard of a Healer’s Inn years ago, when I was in College. I never gave it much thought, until I happened to chat with a friend on line. He explained to me how a Healer’s Inn works and why it is used. This article will explain those two areas.
Mind Body and Spirit; A Healer’s Inn is set up, to help an individuals mind, body, and spirit, through group work.
The Inn is rotated once a month among it’s members. Whoever decides to be the host, must make sure that children are gone for the meeting. The environment must be secure and quiet for the participants. This is very important. It is also necessary to have a very comfortable temperature inside the Inn. Emotions can rise. So temperature comfort is important. You can also have a few candles in the meeting room, but don’t over do it.
Refreshments should be kept very light and inexpensive. The re-freshness comes from the happening itself.
Dress is come as you are. Comfortable dress is important.
When the guests arrive, have them sit in a circle. If you have an extra large crowd, go to several circles at different locations in the Inn. Make sure that there is a Kleenex box for each circle.
Guidelines; Treat everyone with respect, kindness, and compassion. Do not be afraid to reach out to each other. Many participants are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders and they are seeking ideas and help. Political talk is not allowed. Neither is Church talk or talk about others. What is encouraged is problems that you face. Problems like abuse of all types, isolation, loneliness, health care, family communication problems, and concern for others.
Each session starts with a brief silent prayer. The prayer is silent, because the Healer’s Inn attracts people of different religions. By keeping it silent, each person can commit to the god of their choice.
The session starts, with a person discussing the problem that concerns them. No questions or comments are made, until the person is totally finished. Then a group moderator lets questions and comments, related only to the problem, be discussed. Depending on the size of the group, a time might have to be set for each member. Members try to help members by listening, giving advice, and words of wisdom.
Not all problems will be solved, but all will be aired. This is important to remember. Group support and understanding is the main goal of the Healer’s Inn.
Finally, it is important that the session is not dragged out for a long period of time. Everyone should try to leave together.
