Prepay cell phones have some advantages over the plan phones. Now some prepaid options are better than what the plan offers. In this article I examine prepaid cell phone options and how some of these can be better than actually tying yourself down to a contract.
No early termination fee
If you decide on a prepaid carrier and you decide to go with somebody else than your not out any early termination fee. Contracts you drop can cost you $250 to stop it and go with someone else. The main thing about cell phone carriers before you sign on the dotted line read all the fine print. They can charge some ridiculous charges.
No late payment charges
Some carriers will charge you late payment charges per line which can add to a tidy sum if you have a family shared plan. If your late more than a few days they can tack on some late payment charges. They will do this if you contact them or not.
Two types of pay plans
You can have pay as you go type phones where you buy a certain amount of minutes. The more minutes you buy the lower the cost per minute. Also, now many prepaid carriers offer you the chance to purchase minutes that do not expire for 12 months. When you purchase minutes find out when they expire. Some will offer you a rollover if you don’t use all the minutes you can carry them over to the next month. ATT offers this feature.
You can also get so many minutes on a month to month plan. If you decide you don’t like the carrier just don’t pay and your done. The only real expense would be the cost of the phone you purchased. You can get cheap phones until you decide if this is the carrier you want to stay with. Than you can buy a nicer phone.
Low activation charges
Most carriers will charge a small activation fee or none at all. Most pay by the minute phones come with 10 minutes already on the phone you just buy a top up card and your good to go. You just go online or call the carrier to activate it.
Take your cell phone number with you
Even some prepaid carriers you can transfer your old number to the new. If you have a number where you have a lot of people get in contact with you this is a good feature. You don’t have to lose your number.
Prepaid cell phones are just as good as plan phones and have been getting better over the last few years. You can get a lot for a little just shop around and find the service you like that offers the features you want.
