Is America depressed? I don’t know about everyone else but I find the whole world pretty depressing and hopeless right now. The economy is in dire straits. I know that there are more foreclosures and bankruptcies than there have been in anytime in my existence. Are we in a depression or are we just depressed. The war in Iraq seems to be endless and when young men and women are being slaughtered not only from other states but also in your own hometown with no end in sight, it really feels hopeless. What do we do about it? What can we do about it? Is there anything that we can do about it? We have a president who does whatever he feels like in spite of what the wishes of the American people or any of his advisors wish.
I have a son who reinlisted in the Army National Guard. He is took my grandson to enlist also So now I have two sons to worry about coming back dead or maimed. Did they enlist because they want to protect their country or to protect the rights of others? I don’t think so. I believe it is because of the money that our country too freely flaunts to help the lower income citizens, enticing them into joining the service.
What do we do about the state of our country? What do we do about the hopelessness that the American people feel? Maybe the rest of you are fine and happily skipping to the gas stations and grocery stores, nary a care in the world. Well I am not. I am not skipping happily to the doctor or dentists office either. Insurance companies are gouging us, and our government is taxing us beyond reason, what are we to do? Our deductible has tripled, and drug companies are making out like bandits. Who is in control of the drug companies and insurance companies? We can’t afford to pay for our prescriptions and dental services with insurance how are people supposed to pay for services without insurance? My husband needs dental work. He needs to have a tooth recapped and some other major dental work done. He asked about payment for what insurance doesn’t cover. They told him we could make three payments of $700.00 to cover the rest of the work. $700.00, of three payments each, excuse me? Does this sound affordable to you? Maybe I am just being unreasonable, but that seems like one helluva a lot of money to me. This of course does not include the major work that I am facing on my teeth. This does not include paying for food, housing, gas and expenses for kids.
We have made a commitment not to use credit cards. We are paying down our debt and working extra hours and jobs to try to manage our finances. We went through the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University to try to get a handle on our debt and become debt free. We believe it is a great program. But I don’t see how people can afford to live in our country today with expenses the way they are. This really adds to people’s mental and emotional health. I am really curious as to how other people deal with these issues.
One way to deal with depression is to limit how much you listen to the news. Don’t watch television news or listen to the news on the radio.
Read something-inspirational everyday.
Talk to positive people and pray for guidance.
Go to a church of your choice and try to surround yourself around encouraging people.
Avoid reading the newspaper and depressing books.
Get outside help, a support group if you can’t afford the cost of therapy.
If need be, get on anti-depressants. You can get them from a general physician. You don’t have to go to a Psychiatrist to get medication.
Try to empower yourself by doing what you can to help yourself. It is really depressing when you see no way out of your situation.
Help someone else who is in worse shape than you are. Believe me today there are many people out there who need help worse than you.
If nothing else, just hang on and tomorrow will hopefully be a better day.
