If your coffee table is square, you have a few options. You can make a square flag, which is fine. You could also simple make a rectangle flag centered in the middle of the square. You could also make four small American flags with a one inch space in between each.
So, take some painter’s tape and tap of the American flag outline on the top of your coffee table.
Now, trace this with a pencil. Next, use a straight edge, like a yard stick to map out the top left blue rectangle in the flag. Trace this on your coffee table with a pencil again.
Now, map out the lines, again marking them with yoru pencil. You can also use an extra fine sharpie if your pencil line is being rubbed off or you can not see it. The wood burned elements of the American Flag coffee table will erase the marker lines.
Now, you want the stars to be perfect, so use a stencil and trace it. You can also draw your won star on some paper, cu tit out, and use that to trace on your coffee table.
Now, remove the tape and plug in you wood burning tool.
Use the tip of your chose to outline the lines of the American flag on yoru coffee table. Outline the stars as well.
You can make this line thick and rough for a more rustic or cabin home décor look.
For a cleaner look, use the finest point, that looks like a pencil point and outline with that.
To add interest you can press the point of the wood burning tip around and make polka dots. Be sure to sign your art work on the bottom right area under the American flag.
Now, use your latex paint to paint into the stars and strips of the American Flag.
For a more shabby chic coffee table look try lightly sanding the area of the stars and stripes. Use red, white, and blue wood stain to paint in the areas.
When this stain dries you can rub some dark wood gel stain on the top to age your coffee table to look like vintage folk art or shabby chic!
