Las Vegas is one of the few places in the United States that sports fans can bet legally with sports books. American Wagering through its subsidiaries has a role in many of the larger sports books in Las Vegas, and they have announed their hiring of a new CFO. In a press release issued by American Wagering, Inc, the company announced that they have hired Melody Sullivan as their new CFO of the organization.
As the CFO for American Wagering Inc, Sullivan will have a large variety of duties. Some of these include managing the accounting functions of the organization along with finance and reporting as legally required, and management of the company’s risk level. Sullivan is a Certified Management Accountant, and has a large range of experience in the field. She has worked in many industries, a few of them includ banking, gaming, and real estate. In previous positions she has held the title of Chief Financial Officer, Vice President, Assistant Vice President, and Controller. She has experience working for companies that were highly regulated, which the gaming industry is by their governing bodies. In addition to serving as the CFO, Sullivan will also serve as the Treasurer for American Wagering, Inc.
During the past year, Sullivan was working as an independent consultant dealing with SEC reporting. Her roles included advising regarding accounting, finance, and compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley bill for various clients. Her two clients over that time period included American Wagering, and another company that was not identified in the press release but was identified as a “publicly-traded gaming company in Last Vegas”. In one of her previous positions, Sullivan served as the CFO of Gaming Partners International, Inc. That company was publicly held, and served as an international gaming supply company.
Sullivan has many key accomplishments with her previous employers. To highlight a few they are acquisitions, mergers, computer system conversions, and public company filings. In her previous positions she has led organizations making sure changes were made to ensure regulatory and legislative compliance with their industries requirements.
American Wagering, Inc. is located in Las Vegas, and does business through many of it’s subsidiaries. The company owns Sturgeon’s hotel/casino in Lovelock, Nevada. They acquired the hotel/casino in 2006. Some of the products their subsidiaries produce include race and sports book computer systems. Another of their subsidiaries creates and installs many of the self-service wagering kiosks that are used in casinos throughout the area.
