There is not a day that goes by where I don’t witness someone running a red light. You see they will be a few hundred feet away from the light, and it will turn yellow. Instead of doing what was taught to them since childhood….slow down….these people speed up. I like to call them redrum…like in the shining it’s murder backwards.
Why… seeing how a red light runner had hit me very close to the heart a few years ago and caused the death of a friends unborn child, I now refer to red light runners as murderers.
Why though? What is the point of running a red light? Is the person late to work? Is there an emergency that causes them to speed up and fly through it?
Then I ask is the need to run through red lights worth the consequences? I’m not talking about getting caught and getting a ticket, I’m talking about the other consequences…like perhaps hitting someone and killing them, or killing a passenger in your car…or yourself… even though technically it is my opinion that you, the redrum red light runner is the only one who deserves death.
What were the reasons a 6 month old baby boy had to die before he even took his first breath? The reason…. the woman was in a rush to dodge the red light so she could pick up her morning cup of coffee. Nice reasoning, great excuse. Someone give me an axe.
Running through a yellow light may seem like an innocent act, but the fact of the matter is, you are not running a yellow light anymore, because by the time you speed up to the crossway the light is already red, and you…well, you’re going too damn fast to stop. You just ran a red light, man what a rush! You got away with it! However perhaps next time you won’t be so lucky, are these little car games of Russian roulette worth it?
I shouldn’t have to give tips on what to do when you see a yellow light, however it seems this day and age many people have forgotten, so here is my tip… when the light turns yellow it means…SLOW DOWN….not speed up so you can perhaps ‘make it’.
Red lights seem to be the demons of the road for some, as do yellow ones. You see when I am approaching a light and it turns yellow, naturally I slow my putter down. However there have been times where people behind me have rode their horns just so I will speed up and pass through the light. Not me though, you can ride your damn horn all you’d like. Perhaps I’ll set a Goddamn example for you.
Stop signs are also red… however people nowadays treat stop signs like they should be treating yellow lights. Every single day I see people slowing down for stop signs… but they do not stop. The term used is a ‘rolling stop’. For me a rolling stop is nothing more than a death trap waiting to happen.
Many people feel that it is safe to roll through stop signs on back roads because they are ‘safer’. However if the person heading down the road does not have a stop sign… or if they too feel like ‘rolling’ through, there is going to be an accident. Do not think that back road accidents are not fatal, because they sure as hell are. More accidents occur on back roads because of negligent ‘rolling stop’ drivers.
Then there are those who drive with road rage, another term for road rage is ‘seeing red’. You see I will admit to having road rage. But my road rage stems from those who dodge traffic lights, and roll through stop signs. My rage only occurs when someone puts my life in their hands. When someone speeds through a light and nearly hits me, or when someone dodges a stop sign and almost takes off my side door doing so. My road rage though stops with just a few cuss words out the window, and a middle finger in the air.
However I have seen acts being done such as tailgating so far up the tailpipe, erratic driving because someone is driving too slow, or cutting over a solid line to pass someone illegally. I guess these morons were really seeing red…you’d have to see red to behave like that on the road where you are now using your vehicle as a weapon and not a privilege.
So whats up with red? It seems that nearly everyone on the road who sees red acts like idiotic animals. You wouldn’t throw a plugged in radio into a bathtub while you were in it, nor would you stick your hand into a moving blender…yet when some see the color red… they don’t even think twice about the consequences. That dodging a red light could result in even more red.
We know that if we throw a radio into a bathtub while we are in it would result in electrocution, that sticking our hand into a turned on blender would result in the loss of fingers….yet for some reason we don’t seem to think that dodging a red light could result into a bloody horrific mess, and in some cases, death.
It is my opinion that people need to be more AWARE of the consequences of idiotic driving choices. Videos should be played; videos that are not so pleasant, videos showing what happens to people when they get hit while dodging a light or stop sign. It is my belief that if you run a red light, or red stop sign, or portray acts of road rage while driving you should by law be required to WATCH a 4 hour video of horrific accidents, and how you could only be so lucky to still be here to view the video.
It seems a ticket is not enough for some, and most erratic drivers think… it won’t happen to them. However these are the very people it does happen to, and sadly sometimes along the way innocent people, children, baby’s, and unborn babies are killed because of this way of thinking.
Think twice before rolling through that stop sign, or speeding up for the yellow light. Seriously think twice.
Before you run a light or sign ask yourself, can you live with the guilt of killing a passenger in your car, can you live with the guilt of killing a newly married couples unborn child? Someones wife, or husband? Can you look at the family of the victim in the eyes and say you are sorry for killing their mom or dad? Can you live with that guilt?
I don’t think so.
