Christina Aguilera is currently one of the best female pop artists in the popular music genre. She’s not just gifted vocally, but her entertainment factor is gifted, as well as, her stage presence . I have always thought she was really good, by hearing different songs she would sing (Reflection, I Turn To You, Fighter, The Voice Within, i.e.) because she was was great with basic adaption and projection, but flexible in terms of taking on either an upbeat or ballad, but I have to be honest, when she first entered the music industry, I never really listened to her.
I was a bit skeptical, because as much as I thought “Genie In A Bottle” was a cute song, it was rather “cheesy” to me, at the time. I kind of thought she was a bit unoriginal, but as time proceeded, she has really grown as an artist. Someone who should be respected.
One of the most recent songs I discovered was called “Hurt” from her new album “Back To Basics”. It’s a very rich, pop, r&b soul, jazz ballad number that opened up Christina’s soul. As if Christina was telling a story of her life in 4 minutes in this song. It possessed a lot of raw emotion, that you normally don’t see (or hear) in popular music. I have always thought of Christina as being commercial, but this song proved she isn’t commercial as she sells. That song definitely sold me.
Also, the jazz concept of the Back to Basics album is great, but what made the album even more interesting was Christina had a hand at writing every song on the album. (What I thought was even more interesting and I did NOT even know this was Linda Perry of the 4 Non Blondes is her producer. They were a great band, that I use to listen to when I was around 12-13. They had an awesome song called “What’s Up”.)
Christina has achieved great praise in the music industry for being talented. I think she is very much deserving of that praise. She definitely brings something a little unique to the industry. What is there, not to love about Christina Aguilera? One thing is certain, I like her.
Pros – Christina has great vocal power and control. She also has stuck with her edge the entire time she has been in the business, without flip flopping trying to find herself. She is also very flexible, in terms of using her human instrument. She also seems to connect with every song she sings and because she has grown as an artist and can project amazingly. She proves she isn’t commercial and shows more emotion, more soul. She makes you believe what she is singing and as time proceeds, she improves.
Cons – I find her to be amazing, so it’s hard to criticize her, however; one thing I have noticed is Christina uses too many runs and she sounds a bit artificial when she does this. She also over warbles a bit too much in different songs that do not call for it. Attempting to make them her own, they are meant to be simple and she tries to (what I call) “over do them”.
She also fake belts pretty often. Although, I’ve noticed as of late, she doesn’t do that as much as she did before. She’s not effortlessly good and she has a tendency to over sing. Although, I would have said she sounded unoriginal a few years ago, you can tell definitely tell it’s her when she is singing, although it’s almost as if she’s trying too hard to sound like Whitney Houston in her prime or Mariah Carey 15 years ago.

On Stage Presence
Pros – Christina is a true showman. She may not be Prince in the entertaining department, but she’s good and can put on a show. She projects to the extent it shows with every performance, hence why we have so much to look forward to, when we watch her perform. With age, she improves.
Cons – Her facial expressions can be a bit odd, but they don’t effect much of her stage presence. She does have a tendency to try too hard and there are instances where I have noticed she puts her finger to her ear, as if she has trouble hearing herself. I really don’t consider that a huge problem though.

Pros – She’s attractive. Sometimes she’s gorgeous in a classic sense and even beautiful. She tends to be flexible in terms of her look and isn’t afraid to try anything new.
Cons – She’s very artificial looking and unnatural. She is even a bit unoriginal looking, as if she tries too hard to possess her look or look like a certain 1950s-1960s icon.
