My first doll that I have ever bought myself came to my door from Ashton Drake when I was about 15. This doll is what started my ever growing collection of porcelain baby dolls. She has no name, and is simply titled ‘Cute As A Button’. She was the very first baby doll in Titus Tomescu’s Barely Yours Collection.
Her popularity was sky high back in 1993, and her mold was retired in 1995. The doll won many, many awards, and if you own a Cute As A Button baby doll, you will clearly see why.
She is as cute as a button, and her title name suits her well. She comes in a sitting position, wearing an adorable pink and white 2 piece outfit. Her top is a little tie up, that shows her tiny bulging belly. On the back of the shirt the words Cute As A Button are written. The O in button has been replaced with a cute pink button, instead of the actual letter in stitching.
Her bottom is basically just a pink and white diaper cover, with cute little frills in the back, and a smaller pink button attached to a small pink and white checked bow.
Cute As A Button has golden colored hair with that falls slightly past her ears. On top of her head she has a tiny piece of hair tied up in a bow. The doll has an enormous heart melting smile on her face, if you look closely you will see a few tiny teeth that looks like they have just come in. Her lips are done up to look realistic, with high gloss to make it look as if she has been drooling.
Her eyes are a deep brown, and are made of glass. They have a realistic shine to them, and really adds to the charm of this baby doll.
Cute As A Button has dimples in places where babies normally would have them; such as her elbows, cheeks and knees.
The dolls joints are all movable, so you can position her any which way you would like, however you can’t really do too much with her legs because they are in the sitting position. You can though mover her head to look in any direction you choose, you can also move her arms up and down.
Cute As A Button’s mold was retired in 1995, and the doll is no longer being casted, however this does not mean that you can no longer purchase her. I bought her directly from Ashton Drake years ago for nearly $70.00, however after seeking her online you can purchase her for less, so long as you don’t mind not having her original box and certificate of authenticity. You can right now buy this little sweetheart for $45.00 by clicking here.
For $130.00 you can have her in her original box with her certificate, by clicking here.
I recommend her because she is not only the most adorable doll in my collection, but she is also rising in price as time goes on. So long as you purchase her with her original box and have her certificate of authenticity, Cute As A Button will just rise, and rise in price, making her truly an ultimate collectible doll.
She is a must have for those who collect porcelain baby dolls, she will truly become your favorite the moment you open the box.
Bravo to Titus for making such a spectacular baby doll.
Other Cute As A Button Dolls:
Seeing how the porcelain Cute As A Button baby doll was so popular, they released a miniature set of Barely Yours Dolls. Included in the set is of course Cute As A Button. I purchased this set because I knew in due time the dolls would be worth a fortune. They are extremely rare as of now, and for those of you who have obtained the set, bravo, because I am not even able to find them online for sale!
Cute As A Button is also available in vinyl for children who want to play with the doll, but cannot do so with the glass doll. She looks just like her porcelain sister, only is safer to give to children.
I hope you truly think about picking this doll up, you will not regret it.
