If you are planning on escaping from America and moving abroad to live in work in Australia, then you will need to take the necessary steps to set up a legal residence. If your stay will be between three months and four years, then what you will need is a temporary residence visa to live in the country legally.
When you are preparing to apply for your temporary residence visa for Australia, keep in mind that some types of temporary residence visas do charge a fee. Also, if your stay will be greater and a year you can expect to be required to undergo a medical examination and a chest x-ray before the visa is granted to you.
If you are granted a temporary residence visa, you should expect to spend most, if not all, of the time period within the country. Now, typically holders of a temporary residence visa are granted a multiple entry visa for the length of the stay, but it is best if you keep your leaving to a minimum since you are not a permanent resident. Also, as a temporary visa holder, you will not be granted access to the national public healthcare or any other social welfare benefits.
If you are a temporary worker, then certain categories of skilled workers are allowed a temporary residence visa for the length of the employment contract. It will not be valid for a period greater than four years and will only be granted when there are no residents that can fill the position. Currently, there are no quota limits for temporary visas, and workers in a variety of occupations can be eligible for them. For a temporary residence visa to be issued for a temporary worker, the following conditions must be met: The employer must be the sponsor and pay all fees, the skills of the worker must be unavailable in the country, the job must be a full time one, the pay and conditions must be the norm, the job is not for an unskilled position and normal health and character requirements of the worker are met.
The employer that wishes to sponsor you will need to have a solid record of training workers. They will also have to show that are no qualified residents available for the position. In addition, the sponsor must be willing to take financial and legal responsibility for you.
If you get a temporary residence visa with work permissions and your spouse is listed on the application then your spouse is also permitted to work in Australia.
A temporary residence visa does not automatically renew. Once granted, you cannot change jobs or sponsors either. You will also need to have your own health insurance.
