According to the Baltimore County, Maryland news release, police authorities have identified those involved in the murder and attempted suicide on September 17th in the Essex area.
Police authorities in Baltimore, Maryland have identified two people who had been involved in a murder/suicide that took place early Saturday morning at 1200 South Marlyn Avenue. Marissa Ann Shcott, 26, and Eugene George Rossmark, 28, are the two people have been identified. Schott who lived at the above address and Rossmark who lived at the 700 block of South Atwood Road had been at Schott’s home when her former boyfriend Carl Eugene Locklear broke into her house through a rear door. He then went upstairs where he found Schott an Rossmark inside her bedroom. Locklear than allegedly shot Rossmark several times with a handgun, then turned the gun on himself.
When police arrived at the scene, Rossmark was pronounced dead. Schott was lucky and sustained no injuries, and Loclklear was transported to a Bayview Medical Center where he was placed on life support. Police are assuming that the motive was jealously, however no specifics details have been made.
According to the Violence Policy Center there is approximately 1200 murder/suicides each year. Out of those 1200 murder/suicides, 500 of them are suicides by people who just killed another person. 75 percent of them involve the boyfriend or girlfriend or even spouse. 96 percent of all murder/suicides are done my males. 92 percent of the murder/suicides involve a gun of some sort. 92 percent of the crimes happen in the house of the victim murdered. When a murder/suicide occurs, there is an average six year difference between the murderer and the victim. 23 percent of all murder/suicides are done by someone who is 55 or older.
As said before the most common component in murder/suicides is the use of a gun of some sort. According to the Violence Policy Center, the gun allows the shooter to act upon an impulse. It is known that in every major study that has been done on murder/suicide that with the combination of lethality and availability that a gun is the weapon most often used to murder the victims as well as turning the gun on themselves. In the study it is noted that the presence of a gun allows the offender to quickly and easily kill numerous victims. It is also noted that if the offender did not have access to a gun, that the injuries would probably have not been fatal.
