Be Happy To Live in America Today
An old saying in news is that “if it bleeds it leads”. You can see this in all the fires they show and murders they cover. The drama in our economy is also a target. They show graphs of the plunging stock market and act like this has never happened before in America. It has and we have come back! I think it is time we got a grip and counted our blessings. Here are some reasons to be happy to live in America today.
-The cold war is over! Do you remember not too long ago when we faced
Nuclear War and the end of civilization? A nuclear winter was far worse
than global warming. We had Russian submarines off the coast and an Iron
Curtain in Europe. The Cuban missile crisis almost killed us all.
-People live longer today than ever before. Average life expectancy 78. This is up from fifty in 1900. It still is fifty in parts of Africa. Our hospitals and doctors are among the finest in the world. Our country spends enormous sums on medical research to find cures for disease. In one hundred years there might not be any disease they can’t cure.
-Our nation has the world’s best agricultural production. American’s don’t have to worry about going hungry. Our farmers are so efficient they are paid not to grow crops to keep prices up. We even ship extra food around the World for humanitarian reasons.
-Americans are a kind and charitable people. Most of our citizens are religious and were brought up with a strong moral code. These morals are reflected in our laws and make us try and do the right thing. We help our fellow citizens when they are in need. This happened in the recent hurricanes in the gulf when average Americans of every creed trucked supplies to the region.
-We are the world’s superpower. America, through the ethical use of its resources, has earned the love of the world. We have always fought for freedom and human dignity. This has led us into saving Europe twice and leading the world during the Cold War. We could have staid at home but didn’t. And when the wars were over we established peaceful relations with our former enemies. This good will we have earned will help us survive in the future.
-We have strong leadership in our country. People fight about what is important. The direction of our country is no different. Our policy makers are working hard to fix our problems. We will judge their success or failures when we vote and have the kind of America we want.
