Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards spoke during the AFSCME Convention at a Des Moines Holiday Inn in July.
“It is clear I have the most substantive and comprehensible plan to end poverty,” he said.
Ironically, this same hotel chain is responsible for eliminating poverty-level individuals from their homes. The majority were renters, who were removed to make way for a larger parking lot for the airport and the hotel itself, according to a couple of residents in that area.
Though the hotel can’t be blamed on Edwards, can we trust completely what he says? Regardless, I am more a Democrat than anything else, but I have lost trust in our politicians. Can Edwards be the one to clean up the poverty mess as he promises he can with his miraculous plan?
Edwards also stated, that according to statistics, there are five million Americans that have become poverty stricken just during George W. Bush’s “reign of terror.” (Sorry. Personal entry there. I meant “presidential terms.”)
Edwards sent Bush a letter to challenge him. Sorry. I am still waiting for Santa to answer my letter from first grade. Who is going to get their answer first? I must give a round of applause to Edwards for issuing a challenge to Bush, for him to look at us Iowans. For him to come visit us that live in drafty, paper-thin mobile homes. To see those of us that have fallen, dusted ourselves off, for Bush to trip us again. For Bush to come here and look us all in the eyes would be difficult, as we all should remember that he didn’t go to the worst parts of Katrina. He stayed where it was nicer, cleaner and friendlier.
July 26 was the RAGBRAI in Iowa. All the presidential candidates were invited, but Edwards was the only one that showed up to pedal a dozen miles in the expedition.
Jokingly, Edwards had said that after the few miles that he rode his butt hurt. Was that normal? he asked. He’s truthful, but that was a bit too much information. If Edwards can be truthful about such a statement as his butt hurting after riding a bicycle, I think I need to keep an eye on this one. My butt hurts after riding a bike as well.
Edwards has recently gone to Cedar Rapids, where he unveiled his trade policies and revealed some inside information to why George Bush Sr.’s trade plans failed and how President Bill Clinton just ushered the situation through. A Democrat insulting a Democrat. Is this for Hillary’s pounding? Possibly. Is Edwards flat out telling us the truth on this one?
Needless to say if he told us his butt hurt from riding his bicycle in the RAGBRAI, then he could be telling us the truth about our trade policies.
