Since my husband was diagnosed with respiratory problems, we have been doing everything we can to make sure the air quality in our home is as good as it can be, since this can affect his breathing. Sometimes, dusting alone is not enough, because there can still be pollutants in the air that you’re not aware of that can be harmful to your lungs. Also, if you have people in neighboring apartments, who smoke cigarettes on a regular basis, sometimes you can smell the smoke coming through the vents, not a good thing when you are suffering from respiratory issues.
We were considering some humidifiers, but the ones some folks suggested were extremely expensive and my husband, who is the very soul of frugality, insisted that we look for similar products to do the job that were most “cost effective”. He discovered one such product, while thumbing through a copy of a Carol Wright Gifts catalog.
The product was the Ionic Whisper Air Purifier, made by Bell and Howell. According to its ad copy, this product was supposedly effective against such pollutants as cigarette smoke, dust, pet dander and pollen and reduced allergens and airborne irritants. It worked 24/7, had a permanent filer and was energy-efficient. Best of all, the price per unit was $29.95, marked down from its original price of $39.95.
It took a little longer to arrive than we had hoped, but it finally did get to us within 3-4 weeks. The Ionic Whisper Air Purifier was a diminutive 12″ high X 4″ wide, which was okay with us, because we wanted to be able to easily fit in anyplace in the room. We chose to place it in our bedroom, because this is where we sleep and this was the room where we had the most problems with our neighbor’s cigarette smoke coming through the vents. My husbnad put in right on the nightstand on his side of the bed and it has been in full use for about two months now.
While, unarguably, a more expensive air purifier would have more dramatic results, for a product that costs so little, we have found that the Ionic Whisper Air Purifier has had some positive results. My husband doesn’t cough as much as he once did and the air seems to be cleaner than it was before. Since the filer is permanent, then we only have to clean it on a regular basis, a lot less complicated than having to keep replacing filters.
I would say that, if you live in a smaller place, like an apartment, the Ionic Whisper Air Purifier is fairly decent and can be helpful in reducing air qu ality concerns. If you live in a house, though, you would probably need a much larger air purifier than this product.
