Have you wondered how you could bootstrap yourself almost free of charge into an online business making thousands of dollars a month?
Well, you can. One way is to sign up with 750,000 others who sell tangible products on line either on their own or with a computer syndicate.
But a better way is to sell ideas, technical and simple stuff. Consider writing an e-book about something you know, and learn to create how-to videos to convey ideas, train people, and sell products.
Blogs are great for creating and selling information products. Blogs convey knowledge in an easily digestible format. You could sell someone else’s information products through various programs. Even better, create your own. It puts you in the best position in the online sales world.
You should have either knowledge or passion about a product. If you are an expert, great. But if you just like to fish, for example, but are not an expert, that shouldn’t stop you from developing articles about something you like to do by consulting actual experts and quoting or paraphrasing them.
You may have a steep learning curve, but passion carries you through the hard spots until you’re the expert.
Once you have a general idea about a product, start blogging. You don’t need to know exactly what the product will be. Posts, comments and questions, and the popularity of certain key words, will help you decide which direction to go, and I suggest you survey readers to find out what they like to read.
For example, here are several possible questions to use in different surveys:
- What are the top 3 things you like to do in your spare time?
- What are your top 3 television shows?
- What are you good at?
- What would you like to know more about?
- When you surf the web, what are the top 3 subjects you seek?
- Tell your readers you are starting up a new blog and ask what they want to read?
The secret to success in blogging is to publish only those things your readers want. Surveys are a great place to start.
Your blogs may become the subject for an audio product sold as a CD, or perhaps a downloadable MP3 or even a video. Your reader interaction can help you fine-tune the product your readers are really interested in.
But why would someone buy something that you are essentially publishing for free on the Internet? Due to the reverse chronological order of a blog, it is really hard for readers to digest your stuff. Having your content with information book, audio, or video format is a whole lot easier. The key is to get the product finished in the least time possible, rather than making it perfect.
Blogging to sell things does not require a college degree. The most successful sellers on line write a lot of their own material and if they leave out a comma here or misspell a word, or if the grammar sounds quirky, that’s okay. Readers come to expect and accept some of that. There are very few Ernest Hemingways writing blogs today. Besides, the best writers write like they speak, and that creates interest and understanding.
One of the best tricks of the trade is offering a chapter or two, or perhaps a complete audio, free of charge. My wife, son, and I wrote a 247-page book about profiting while selling real estate fast and it was published.. But I am writing a twenty-page booklet including all of our secrets, and giving it away free. The man must be crazy, right? No!
To get the booklet, I will require readers to give me an op-in email address and name, and permission to receive my newsletter. That will be a further vehicle to sell things, including the complete e-book and follow up with reminders, special offers, and more.
You can also tell and sell via a mini-course or a tutorial that tells what the e-book or product is about as well as highlighting the benefits for having the e-book.
Your complementary offering should be in the same vein – offering hints at what the full learning experience will be like after the sale.
No matter what pre-selling technique you use, you’ll still need a sales page that entices people to click through and order. It should have a great headline, restate the core benefits of your product, and follow-up with the features which support your product benefits.
Your article and your excerpt or blog should have pre-sold the reader so that he simply scans your sales page and orders. It’s important to have an authoritative, low-hype sales page with plenty of testimonials that you acquired from key people in your niche and from your subscribers. A money-back guarantee also helps boost sales immediately. Experienced bloggers – some who make hundreds of thousands of dollars yearly selling products – believe that there is no better business in the world than being both the manufacturer and direct seller of your own high-margin product.
Information products are selling fast, and it takes only your mind and some time to create them, and some smart blogging to sell them. Do you realize there are more than a billion persons on line, and it’s growing rapidly? What a market you and I have! The good news is that most of that market is yet to be tapped!
