Nashville, Tennessee – Cheyenne Delp who was a foster child in the care of Sherri Mathis was strangled to death in 2004. Sherri Mathis is charged with first-degree murder for MDelp’s death. New developments in Mathis’s case has her booked in the Warren County jail on seven new charges of neglect and child abuse. Investigators believe that Mathis allegedly abused two young boys who had been in her care in June 2003 and June 2004, reported by News Channel 5.
Hagerstown, Maryland – James Hackey was sentenced in 1987 on 10 counts of burglary and violating probation in 1987 which added up to 41 years in prison. Three years ago, Hackey was released on parole after serving 17 years of his sentence. Now Hackey is facing new charges in the abduction of an 11 year-old who was kidnapped and raped in May. Officers detained Hackey after he had been caught at the Oak Ridge Apartments peeping into people’s windows. The apartments is where the girl had been abducted. Hackey is facing 17 criminal charges which include kidnapping and two counts of rape as reported by Associated Press.
Deerfield Beach, Florida – Chadrick Orlando Simmons, 30, was identified as the man who was shot and killed outside a home in the 300 block of NW. 2nd Way. The incident occurred after an argument which was involving several men and women happened around 1:00 a.m.. One of the people that were involved in the argument that shot Simmons multiple times has not been identified as of this evening. No other details have come about as of today. Detective Dave Nicholson is urging anyone with information on this crime to call 954-321-4210 or Broward Crime Stoppers, the Sun Sentinel reports.
Panama City, Florida – Herman Harmon who is accused and charged with first degree murder in the death of Gillman’s Marine owner Jeff Gillman tried to escape from the Bay County Jail Annex. Police authorities have said that Harmon had shaved down his plastic utensils and used them to pick the lock on his cell. After unlocking the door, he allegedly grabbed a female corrections officers and forced her to give him her radio. Using the radio, Harmon then wanted the guards to open the door where the exercise yard was, fortunately he never got out of the building. Harmon is now facing four new charges on top of the murder charge, reports WHJG -7.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Shakita Mangham, 25, and Furaha Love, 25, are being charged with involuntary manslaughter after the two mothers allegedly left their children alone, resulting in a fire that killed five of the children. The children, Daekia Holyfield, 7, Cedano Holyfield, 4, Dezekiah Holyfield, 3, Azquel Rankin, 5, and Andre Rankin, 6, were all killed in a fire in which investigators say started with matches the children were allegedly playing with. The mothers of the five children had claimed they left them with a babysitter while they went to a bar, eventually turned themselves in stating they only left them alone for 15 to 20 minutes. Along with the manslaughter charges Mangham and Love are being charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of the children, as reported by AP.
Berwick, Pennsylvania – Dale Hutchins a school crossing guard is being charged with 1,000 counts of sexual assault. Hutchins is accused of molesting seven children during 1998 and 2007, with all the alleged victims being under the age of 13. Police began investigating Hutchins after an 11 year-old girl accused Hutchins of putting his hand down her pants while she made him breakfast at his home earlier this year. Once the investigation started more children started coming forward. Hutchins who worked for Orange Street Elementary School is being charged with 305 counts of raping a child, 356 counts of aggravated indecent assault against a child under 13, and 356 counts of indecent assault against a child under 13, reported by AP.
Evergreen, West Virginia – Glenna Faye Wiley, 42, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for felony sexual abuse and child abuse involving her daughter who at the time was three years-old, and her son who was 17 years-old. Her husband, Jack Wiley, 59, has also been charged with sexually molesting the boy and girl. His trial is to begin in November. Traci Lee Dean of Atlanta told police that she had seen the little girl a convenience store off of I-65 and suspected that there was something wrong. It took a lot of work for authorities to listen to Dean, finally however a deputy looked at a surveillance tape from the store and the authorities located the children. The two children are now with foster families, AP reports.
Durango, Colorado – Derrick Begaye, 24, Harold Nakai, 34, and Carlton Yazzie, 38, are all being charged with the rape and murder of 34 year-old Nicole Redhorse who was found dead June 7, 2007 in a room at the Spanish Trails Inn and Suites. Nakai who was her boyfriend told authorities that he allegedly gave Redhorse enough to drink to get her drunk so they could all rape her. Authorities also stated that large amounts of blood had been cleaned up in the hotel room. Police are not disclosing the actual cause of death. The three men if convicted of the murder could spend a minimum of life in prison without parole and could possibly face the death penalty, reports The Daily Times.
