Are you a newly graduated or soon-to-be graduated high school student ? Do you feel that you are not quite ready to enter college? Are you a stay-at-home mother wanting to start a new career or a person that wants to change career types? My recommendation, here in Lake Charles, LA, is Delta Tech School of Business and Technology. Classes are Monday through Thursday, with Friday being available if needed, and in as little as 18 months you can get your associate degree. The really great part is that as a part of the program, an internship is included. Not an internship that you have to get but one that the school works to get. This is free to both the employer and employee. If you do not want to go for 18 months they also have degree programs.
The associate programs include accounting, administrative assistant (computers), administrative assistant (legal), business management, drafting technology, information technology, and medical office assistant. The degree programs consist of accounting, administrative assistant, and medical assistant.
Do you need childcare? A daycare center is available at the campus. For a very affordable price, I believe it is two dollars a day, your child can stay at the daycare. I am not sure of the age range that is accepted or additional rules.
Worried about interviewing? One of the classes is job readiness. Discussed in this class is what to wear, what interviewers may ask, and what they are “expecting” you to answer. Mock interviews, with written critiques by the interviewer, are conducted at the end of this class.
There is a lot of talk about Delta Tech not being a “real college.” I have just finished my program, except for my internship, so I know that the education you receive at Delta Tech is one that is pertinent to the work world.
For the new student, Delta Tech has orientation and after you have started classes they have lunchtime meetings. These can be very helpful in making the new student feel at home. A counselor is assigned to each person and they are available to the student.
Your books are included in your tuition. You simply go to the library, with your schedule, to get your books. The problem I had with this is that I could not choose used books if I wanted. You also cannot write in your books if you want to turn them back in for credit.
Do you have financial worries? Delta Tech has a financial aid department that is ready and willing to help you figure out a solution. Scholarships are available.
Do you have previous education that you feel may transfer over? Credit may be given for these classes.
However, this does not shorten the time that you attend Delta Tech. I am not sure how this works, but it does.
With all the advancement in technology, there are many changes. You are able to “upgrade” the degree that you got for free. Also if you happen to fail a class, you may take that class over at no charge.
One problem that I found is that Delta Tech needs to work on their handicap accessibility. They have recently installed handicap restrooms, but have no way for a person unable to get upstairs to do so; such as elevators or ramps. I have heard that if your class is upstairs and you cannot get there, the class will be moved downstairs.
Delta Tech is conveniently located on the corner of Broad Street and Hodges. The physical address is 517 Broad Street, Lake Charles, LA 70601. The telephone number is (337) 439-5765 and the fax is(337) 436-5151. The website is http://www.deltatech.edu
