According to the United States Department of Justice, the Department of Justice granted Florida over $1.8 million dollars in order to control gang violence and prevention efforts.
Recent crime statistics have shown that gang violence is beginning to increase in certain parts of the United States so the only way to fight this increase in violence is for the United States to continue to begin issues more grants now to help combat the current gangs in the United States and to prevent gangs in the future from forming.
The grants that Florida received today are actually three separate awards that total up to more than $1.8 million. They are being sent to Florida under the funding known as Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) Initiative which is a program whose funding is directing for Anti Gangs in an effort to make the streets safer for all citizens and most importantly the children.
So why extra funding from this program now and to Florida? Well the Attorney General had recognized how in Florida particularly, there has been an increase in gand activity and this extra funding is needed in order to help make the streets stay safe from this increasing deadly threat. The Attorney General has nevertheless, made anti-gand enforcement as well as prevention his number one priorities.
The funds are being taken out of the Office of Justice Programs’ (OJP) Bureau of Justice Assistance, which is part of the Justice Department. They will then be used in efforts aimed at making sure youth who have a high risk of being vulnerable to gang involvement are stirred into the right path, evidence that gand prevention is taking place, as well as lowering the number of gang related crimes by the local, state, and federal enforcement. These tasks will all be taken on led by the Attorneys for the Northern District of Florida, Southern District of Florida, and the Middle District of Florida.
What exactly is Project Safe Neighborhoods? They key goal of this nationwide commitment is to reduce the amount of gun violence through out the United States. The only way to do this is by cooperation and collaboration. Project Safe Neighborhood stresses the need for everyone to work together, including local, state, and federal agencies, because that is the only way to fully get the job done. If the state cracks down on gun violence but each little town inside it does not, there will be weaknesses inside the state and the state’s work will be pointless. This team work offensive is led by an Attorney General, each one having one of their own out of the 94 different judicial districts.
Though team work at the enforcement level is important, you should do your part as well. Do not be a part of gang violence, report those who are involved, and if you have children, make sure they do not get involved either.
