Being on a rather limited diet can leave you craving something more for your taste buds. I have my moments of weakness where I have to slap myself in the face to stop drooling over my fiancé’s hearty dinner consisting of half a Pizza Hut pizza loaded with extra cheese and greasy meats. Then I have to leave the room while he indulges in a hefty slice of Carvel ice cream cake.
There is hope, though! I have finally found something to satisfy my ravenous sweet tooth without sabotaging my diet. It has no calories, no sugar, or much of anything except for a little sodium. Dr. Pepper has the most delicious diet soda flavor ever! I am not a fan of diet sodas because of the NutraSweet flavor that I can’t stomach. Dr. Pepper’s cherry vanilla diet soda is like dessert in a can.
It tastes like something you’d order in an old-fashioned diner. The cherry flavor is what your taste buds will notice first, but your nose will smell the vanilla. I don’t understand how they do this, but it is pleasant. It tastes like a regular Dr. Pepper with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a lots of maraschino cherries added.
They even changed the color. Most cola products that add cherry flavoring stay brown, but Dr. Pepper tinted their elixir an eye pleasing maroon color. I don’t know if the color of something edible affects how it tastes or not, but it’s cute.
Most importantly, it doesn’t have that chalky acidic taste that NutraSweet has. It really tastes like something you should be eating with a spoon. Whenever I have an insane craving for something I’ll regret eating later, I just reach for one of these babies. After a few sips I’m satisfied. Don’t get me wrong, Coca-Cola makes a tasty cherry diet soda, but it can’t compare to the creamy smooth nirvana that is Dr. Pepper’s cherry vanilla diet soda.
I am so impressed with the product that I decided to conduct a little experiment with it. My fiancé cannot stand diet food. He grimaces at my Lean Cuisine dinners and gets nauseous at the very thought of tasting another diet drink again. He said that once was enough for him.
Well, one night after his Burger King whopper and fries, he asks if we have anything good to drink. I poured some of my Dr. Pepper into a glass without him noticing where I had poured it from. I brought it to him and watched him sip at it anxiously. This could go one of two ways. He would either spit it back into the glass or keep on drinking.
To my surprise, he finished off the entire glass in two greedy gulps and asked for more. He then asked what it was because it was good. I had to laugh. He is so against diet food and here he was begging for another no calorie beverage. I brought him a can this time and he couldn’t believe it was diet.
According to the Dr. Pepper can, they have been around since 1885 and I can see why. If they can stay this delicious then I hope I live to be 100 just so I can indulge in their scrumptious soft drinks for as long as possible. These sodas are good for your taste buds and for your waistline, who could ask for more?
