My husband brought this little gadget to me last week. His friend bought it because he wanted to take some photos to the internet but he does not have the knowledge (or time) to actually post his photos so my hubby promised him that I would work that end for him.
I must admit that I was quite suspicious when I saw GE tag. I’ve never seen their camera before and I learned that they just started making cameras.
Last few days I’ve been playing with this one and figuring out all the options. It looks little flimsy and I do not like the look and feel of the buttons, I do not know how well they will last over time but as of now they do the job. There is no cover for your ports for USB etc. I know I was missing the cover for them.
Biggest minus from me with this camera is the slow shutter speed. It takes seconds after you push the button for the actual snap no matter how fresh your batteries are. And I think this camera is useless in the low light if you want to use flash because it eats batteries like crazy and processing photos between snaps is slow as snails.
I had a big problem shooting with only LCD screen, I’m so used to using optical viewfinder. There is no optical viewfinder in this camera. Another minus with this is that you are using batteries with the viewfinder more than with your little viewfinder.
That zoom button has 3 x optical zoom and it zooms quite slowly and is very noisy and every time I used it I was scared that the whole camera will break!
There is tons of different options that sound cool but I could not really see big different in the resulting photos after trying them in same settings. There is Sport, Children, Indoor, Leaf, Snow, Sunset, Fireworks, Glass, Museum, Landscape, Night Landscape, and Night Portrait modes to choose from and it sounds great but if you are looking for a brilliant photos and big difference between photos in each mode I sure could not see it.
I was excited to find a burst mode and tried it while taking photos of our horses on a move. I must say that it is absolutely useless for me, very complicated and those photos are not focused enough for my liking! My old hp takes much sharper motion pictures than this camera!
My husband’s friend was happy with his photos and if you are looking for something that is easy to use, cheap and takes an average portrait and has 8 megapixels show you can print bigger images if wanted why not? But storing all those big images to your hard drive is not a good idea, they will take too much room!
This camera will accept up to 4 GB SD cards so you can take a lot of photos with a bigger memory if you choose to buy one and have enough batteries to change. Rechargeable batteries are realistically only smart way to go unless you want to buy new batteries all the time!
There is 26 MB internal memory which allows you to take 6 photos in highest resolution so you will need the additional memory card!
The CD gives you easy to use software and you can edit your photos very simple ways without being a pro. There is a Quicktime software for your video mode and it is about the cell phone quality but kids can still have fun with it, better than no video mode!
My final thoughts of this camera are that it is cute little thing but not even worth the money if you do the research. Photos come up with some odd colors time to time and it is so slow it gets frustrating.
