In a new press release, the Dow Corning’s Solar Solutions Group has announced the creation of three new materials for the global solar energy market. These three new materials are intended to support photovoltaic module manufacturing.
The new materials expand Dow Corning’s industry-leading portfolio of solar products and it includes high-performance encapsulant and potting agents.
According to the press release, the Dow Corning’s Solar Solutions Group has extended its product offerings for the global solar energy market with an encapsulant and two potting agents that have been tested and qualified for solar applications.
The new materials are: the Dow Corning(R) PV 6010 Cell Encapsulant, the Dow Corning(R) PV 7010 Potting Agent, and PV 7020 Potting Agent.
The new “Dow Corning(R) PV 6010 Cell Encapsulant forms a clear, durable and protective layer over the surface of photovoltaic (PV) solar energy cells, providing proven corrosion and delamination protection. It also provides electrical, high-temperature and ultraviolet stability with no discoloration, ideal for consumer goods’ PV applications”, the press release says
Also, according to the press release, “Dow Corning(R) PV 7010 and PV 7020 Potting Agents are designed to insulate PV cells’ electrical junction boxes, providing excellent, cost-effective electrical insulation and long-lasting protection from moisture, heat and other environmental conditions.”
Last year, Dow Corning launched its first solar feedstock material (Dow Corning(R) PV 1101 SoG Silicon). Now, with these three additions to their product portfolio, Dow Corning is setting itself as the leader in the development, manufacturing and marketing of targeted solutions for photovoltaic applications. Certainly, the global solar energy clients (manufacturers of solar panels, solar batteries, solar mills, solar air conditioners, etc) will benefit from these new Dow Corning materials.
In 1942 moisture in aircraft engines and corona formation made high-altitude flight impossible. Dr. Shailer Bass developed Dow Corning’s first product, a simple silicone grease (Dow Corning #4 Compound) that solved the problem. The company was incorporated in 1943 and it has come a long way since its single-product beginnings.
Over the years Dow Corning has developed and marketed silicone sealants, adhesives, silicone mold-making rubbers, lubricants, release agents for cookware, sound-absorbing silicone, leather treatment, skin care lotion, preceramic polymers for high temperature applications, liquid silicone drycleaning solvent, and silicone waxes.
