With the economy the way it is now, we can all use ways to help us save money but this means we have to sacrifice on using things we need everyday to survive such as water and electricity. Here are some easy ways to save money on electricity and even when you do laundry. We are not only saving money, but we are also helping our environment.
Electricity Savers:
Turn off appliances that are not in use such as the microwave. A microwave makes up about 7% of our monthly electricity usage and computers use around 9% per month. Even leaving your computer on stand by still sucks the electricity so turn them off especially when you are not at home to use them anyway. Most computers use the equivalent of a 100-watt bulb so turn them off when you are not using them.
Unplug your toasters, can openers, hair dryers and curling irons after each use. Radios and stereos can be unplugged when not in use too.
Start replacing all of regular incandescent light bulbs inside of your home & outdoors with compact fluorescents. Fluorescent bulbs cost a little more, but they do have a longer life span and they use far less the amount of electricity than regular light bulbs do. Just look on the package of the light bulbs for the words “Energy Star”. This tells the consumer that this product is rated specifically to save money and uses 75% less energy. GE makes energy smart bulbs, which are Energy Star qualified bulbs that do save money on electricity.
Dry clothes on a clothes line outdoors.
Use motion censored security lights outdoors.
Keep the lint trap cleaned out of your clothes dryer.
Make sure that the dryer vent hose is not clogged up.
Water Savers:
When washing your face, fill the sink with warm water (use just enough to wet your face) then apply your face cleanser and rinse your face from the water that it is in the sink already. This will save tons of water from being wasted and running out the faucet and down the drain.
When taking a shower, turn off the water while you are lathering up.
Only do full loads of laundry.
Wash clothes in cold water
Turn the water off while you are shaving
Turn water off while brushing your teeth
Saving money can be an easy thing to do and although one or two of these ideas might only save you a few dollars here and there, but doing all of these things each month can help save you more cash in the long run. These are all very easy ways to save money and can really generate some extra savings and there is not much effort needed that you have to put into it.
