Men, are you suffering from low energy, erectile dysfunction and loss of libido, prostate problems or weight gain? If so, it may be cause by low testosterone levels. Studies reveal that men today have lower testosterone levels than their forefathers. The result? The lowered hormone may cause health problems.
Lower levels of testosterone are found
Testosterone typically peaks in the 20’s, then it gradually declines. This is already known. However, according to a press release from ZRT, a leading hormone research lab in Oregon, analysis of hormone levels in men reveals a startling trend. On average, today’s men have lower levels of hormones than their father or grandfather did at the same age.
Scandinavian researchers found similar results when they tested men, too. They found that a man born in 1970 had about 20 percent less testosterone at age 35 than a man of his father’s generation at the same age. This is substantially less!
Causes of the lower levels of testosterone
According to David Zava, PhD., President of ZRT Laboratory and an expert on hormonal health, a number of different things might contribute to the lower testosterone levels. Environmental toxins, not getting exercise, prolonged stress are just a few of the things that could trigger your body to block or lower testosterone production.
Zava said, “Hormones work together in symphony, so you really need to look at testosterone in relation to other hormones like cortisol, estrogen, and
thyroid that regulate its activity in the cells.”
Why testosterone is important
While most people associate testosterone with a man’s sex drive, it plays an important role, beyond sex, in men’s health. It is important for muscle and bone strength as well as mental sharpness and mental performance. So when testosterone levels drop, a man’s health can be affected in multiple ways, including those mentioned above. Getting your testosterone level checked
In addition to discussing this with your doctor, men can do a simple testosterone check in the comfort of their own home. ZRT labs offers several different types of hormone level test kits. You can take a simple sample of your saliva in your own home, and return in to ZRT for analysis. This is less expensive than visiting a doctor and less intrusive and quicker than using a needle to draw your blood.
These issues and more will be discussed in the September issue of Men’s Health Magazine article, Attack on Testosterone.
