Ice cream is the ultimate summer treat and while it does taste amazing on its own, you can turn it into several other treats as well. You can use it to make cakes, pies, sundaes, and so much more. The sky is the limit when it comes to this frozen treat. As long as you can be creative, you’ll have thousands of different desserts you can make. To get you started here are just a few of the fun uses for ice cream.
Eight Uses for Ice Cream #1: Cakes
Ice cream cakes are the ultimate birthday cake. These cakes are actually really easy to make if you follow a few easy steps. First of all, bake your cake in 9 inch round pans. When the cakes have cooled, take the lid from a round, paper canister of ice cream (the half gallon size) and place it on the cake. Cut around the lid and do the same to the other cake. The next thing you need to do is take a serrated knife and cut a large slice from the container. Sandwich the ice cream between the layers of cake and put everything in the freezer until it’s frozen. Once frozen you can frost the cake with regular frosting or whipped topping. After the cake is frosted, place it back in the freezer until it’s ready to serve.
Eight Uses for Ice Cream #2: Pies
Ice cream pies are so easy to make. You will need a prepared cookie crust, your favorite ice cream, and a sundae topping. Allow the ice cream to soften and then spread it into the pie crust. Top with the sundae topping and freeze until ready to serve.
Eight Uses for Ice Cream #3: Bonbons
You can even use this frozen treat to make bonbons. All you need to do is scoop out small balls of ice cream. After you have made the balls, place them back in the freezer and allow them to freeze solid. Then melt your favorite chocolate and allow to cool. Remove the balls from the freezer and use a spoon to drizzle chocolate over them. Place back in the freezer until ready to serve.
Eight Uses for Ice Cream #4: Floats
One of my favorite uses for ice cream is floats. You can use any flavor to make a delicious float. Use different flavors of soda and ice cream to create unique flavors of floats. Remember its best to add the ice cream last to prevent foams overs.
Eight Uses for Ice Cream #5: Sandwiches
You can also use ice cream to make sandwiches. Bake some fresh cookies, any flavor, and allow them to cool. Once cool, soften your favorite flavor of ice cream and add a scoop to a cookie. Top with another cookie and squish it slightly together. Then roll in chopped nuts or mini chocolate chips.
Eight Uses for Ice Cream #6: Milkshakes
Milkshakes are so easy to make. All you need is ice cream and a little bit of milk. Add the milk to the blender first and then add the ice cream. Blend until everything is completely mixed. If you like, you can even add crushed cookies or candy.
Eight Uses for Ice Cream #7: Sundaes
Ice cream sundaes are so easy to make. All you need to do is add toppings and you have a sundae. This is the perfect time to be creative. Take a hot brownie, top with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge sauce, glazed walnuts, whipped cream, and a cherry for the ultimate sundae.
Eight Uses for Ice Cream #8: Banana Splits
Banana splits don’t have to be chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, you can use whatever flavors you like. For example, try cherry topped with hot fudge sauce, banana topped with peanut butter sauce, and dark chocolate topped with marshmallow sauce.
