Cross stitch has been a passion of mine for years. The joy of starting with a blank “canvas” and adding colorful stitches to it to create a work of art still amazes me. The perfectness of counted cross stitch appeals to the OCD side of me. If you stay with the pattern and count the right spaces, your pattern can be perfect too.
I am a self-taught cross stitcher, which simply means I made a boatload of mistakes in the past. I have a box full of partially started projects that I misread the pattern and goofed the whole thing up. I wish the DMC website had been around when I started because the information on this site is spectacular. You will find the usual items such as product line descriptions, store locators, and on-line shopping. Here is where it gets good, you will also find FREE patterns, a List & Conversion section and a learning center. Interestingly enough the Learning Center does more than teach cross stitch, it also has sections for crochet, paper crafting, fashion embroidery and MORE! Be sure to visit http://www.dmc-usa.com/.
The website also offers the opportunity to join their FREE club where you have access to more FREE designs, monthly surveys, a message board and a newsletter. Most of the designs listed here are from that member section. Again membership is FREE and well worth your time!!

Don’t forget that other crafts are also represented on the website. I truly believe that crafting is good for the soul, it requires concentration that lets you escape the everyday for a short period of time (a mini-break, if you will) and allows you to be creative. That is the kind of internal nourishment we all need in this hectic times. Sit back and enjoy yourself, it is a wonderful place to visit!!
