NBC has a rather unique television show premiering on Monday, September 24th at 8:00 p.m. that is simply titled “Chuck”. It is a cross between a comedy, drama and action series. Let’s see what viewers will have to look forward to.
This one hour quirky show revolves around the life of Chuck Bartowski, a twenty-something computer geek or shall I saw nerd who works for the fictitious electronics store, Buy More as a computer specialist who are referred to as the Nerd Herd. I wonder where they came up with that idea? This sounds strangely familiar because Best Buy has what they call a Geek Squad that basically does the same job.
Anyhow, Chuck finds himself in a mess of trouble when he receives a mysterious email from an old college roommate by the name of Bryce Larkin. He opens the email and unknowingly downloads all of the government’s secrets into his brain. Oops?
The Central Intelligence Agency along with the National Security Agency would like the data back so then enlist Sarah Walker and Major John Casey for the job.
How will Chuck deal with terrorists and assassins now after him all the while keeping this a secret from family and friends? Not to mention he still has to find time for the Nerd Herd along with a possibly newly sparked social life, thanks to the beautiful Sarah Walker.
NBC is trying to generate as much buzz as possible for “Chuck”. NBC has so much faith in this series that they have sent out pilot promos to various retailers. Blockbuster Video has been offering a free rental of it while Circuit City is making the pilot available at no cost as long as you purchase a television show on DVD. Amazon’s Unbox has the “Chuck” pilot available for a free download and no purchase is required here.
“Chuck” stars Zachary Levi (“Less Than Perfect”), Adam Baldwin (“Firefly”), Yvonne Strahovski, Joshua Gomez (“Without A Trace”) and Sarah Lancaster (“What About Brian”). The series is executive produced by Josh Schwartz who brought viewers “The O.C.” and is also executive produced and directed by McG (“Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” and “We Are Marshall”).
So what are my expectations of the show? I feel “Chuck” has incredibly promise. It sounds like NBC might have a hit on their hands. I loved the premise and the element of mixing comedy along with action which I thought was interesting. The overview of the show is enough where they can literally take the main character anywhere and will leave viewers wanting more from one episode to the next. It is going up against some hard hitting shows including “Dancing with the Stars” and “Prison Break”. I say record either of those two shows and watch “Chuck” to give it the ratings to stay on the air. This series definitely deserves a chance. Watch “Chuck” on Monday, September 24th at 8/7c and an encore of the pilot will air on Saturday, September 29th at 9/8c.
