How many Dunkin’ Donuts is enough for one town? Wilmington, Massachusetts has a population of approximately 22,500 people; the town is spread out over 17.08 square miles with a broad industry base. Route 93, which is one of the main highways in the state, runs through Wilmington with four exits leading into town. With this information in mind, how many Dunkin’ Donuts is enough for our average community? Wilmington has six Dunkin’ Donuts coffee shops spread throughout town with another in the process of being built. However, I am a Starbucks coffee lover and finally had my dream come true when one was built here last year.
One of the Dunkin’ Donuts coffee shops is situated on Main Street in the heart of town. Morning rush hour finds cars lined out to the street waiting for their turn at the drive- through window. They offer a breakfast sandwich for $2.09; with ham or bacon the price is $2.89. Their Supreme Omelet ranges from $3.79 to $4.09. Of course, hash browns are extra. Muffins, bagels and donuts range from $.89 for a single donut to $6.99 for a dozen. A variety of delectable flavors are offered from plain to coconut; my favorite will always be chocolate with chocolate frosting. Dunkin’ Donuts now offers “Latte” both hot and iced; prices range from $2.29to $3.19. Iced latte also comes in caramel or mocha. Tea, hot chocolate and “coolatta” are also served. Summertime finds many people buying “coolatta” drinks which come in strawberry, Tropicana, orange and coffee. For lunch or a quick nighttime snack, Flatbread sandwiches are on the menu. If you do not care for coffee, you will be able to purchase Pepsi, Tropicana, Mountain Dew, Ginger ale, cranberry juice or water.
With a possibility of seven Dunkin’ Donuts in Wilmington, one Starbucks coffee shop opened in 2008 – finally. For those who like strong coffee, this is the place for you. Coffee comes in tall, grande and venti sizes, both hot and cold. A variety of espresso drinks are offered, as well as latte and cappuccino drinks. My favorite, both winter and summer, is the Iced Americano which comes with four shots of espresso over ice, with water if you like. Frappuccino drinks are offered year round and come in strawberry and cream or mocha. A bevy of teas are available for the connoisseur. A delicious assortment of sandwiches and pastries are available, along with salads. This Starbucks is located in the heart of Wilmington. It is situated in front of Staples on Main Street at “Wilmington Crossing.” Directly across the street is “Wilmington Plaza” which is currently in the process of building new stores for CVS, Market Basket, Citizens Bank and many others. The hours at this location are 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. A drive-through is extremely popular at all hours as is the wireless internet connection inside the store. Also inside are tables at which friends can meet; in summer tables are placed outdoors which is conducive to more privacy. Whether inside or outside, the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Starbucks is the “Cheers” of the coffee world.
“The Country Chef” is another favorite coffee shop in Wilmington, Massachusetts. It is located about a mile north of Starbucks, also on Main Street, diagonally across the street from Saint Dorothy’s Catholic Church. This location is conducive to generating a multitude of customers, especially on Sunday mornings when church-goers are leaving mass. It is open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Although the shop is a little too small, the coffee is ever-flowing and the homemade pastries, pancakes, cinnamon French toast and omelets are scrumptious. This is a wonderful place for both families and friends to meet and comes highly recommended by local residents. Although Wilmington, Massachusetts is a small town, you are sure to find a familiar or quiet coffee shop to spend time with family and friends.
