In Week 12 of fantasy football, a lot of you are in the thick of a difficult race for the playoffs. In my own personal league, I am experiencing the same kind of race. With only four playoff spots in my 10-team league, the top four teams are all 8-3 with two 7-4 teams behind them.
In such a close fantasy football race, the quarterback position can make or break your playoff positioning, and even your chances of making the playoffs. That is why the Week 12 Fantasy Football picks on display this week are extremely “safe” picks. Based on the defenses these teams are up against, these quarterbacks should have solid games in Week 12.
1. Eli Manning, New York Giants vs. Minnesota Vikings – The Minnesota Vikings have been poor against the pass all season long. Their inability to cover downfield has been well documented, and that should leave the New York Giants offense with a lot plays to make in the passing game. Plaxico Burress should be a little healthier than he was last week, and even if he stays the same, the Vikings have no way of matching up with Jeremy Shockey. Eli has proven to be one of the better quarterbacks in the league when it comes to throwing intermediate routes, and I think that trend will continue in week 12 against the Vikings.
2. Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints vs. Carolina Panthers – Drew Brees’ 2 interceptions last week were not expected after his stellar play over his last five football games. I expect him to bounce back against a Carolina Panthers’ defense that gave up 31 points to an aging quarterback in Brett Favre. Drew Brees should be able to fair just as well against the Panthers defense that is getting little, if any, pressure on the quarterback recently. Expect a big day from big Drew.
3. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Miami Dolphins – Fresh off a loss against the Jets, I expect nothing but a sold performance against the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins defense looked good in Week 11, but the Eagles have been mediocre all season and McNabb did the leave the game in the first half. I think the Steelers mix of run and pass will throw the Dolphins off balance and return them to them to their status as being in the bottom 5 in defending both the pass and the running game. That confusion should lead to some explosive play action passes for Big Ben.
4. Derek Anderson, Cleveland Browns vs. Houston Texans – He just continues to impress people, and he is slowly making Romeo Crennel look like a genius. This guy has a tremendous arm, and his ability to find the holes in defense will no doubt burn a Texans defense that has five of its defensive backs hurt going into Week 12 of fantasy football.
