Yahoo reports that according to current research, if you exercise and take fish oil, you may help reduce total body fat.
A study was recently done with people who were overweight. This research concluded that a combination of exercise and fish oil supplements helped to reduce body fat. The research also indicated that cholesterol levels were improved, as well as the functioning of blood vessels.
For this study, 75 overweight random adults were chosen. These people were set into four different groups. One group took 6 grams of fish oil each day, one took the fish oil and walked for 45 minutes three days a week, one group took sunflower oil, and the fourth group took the sunflower oil and walked for 45 minutes, three times a week.
The people who were involved in the study, who exercised and took fish oil, had their HDL cholesterol levels rise. HDL cholesterol is the good type of cholesterol in your body. The unhealthy cholesterol levels in the participants dropped. This research seems to indicate regular exercise, taken with fish oil, can help to eliminate total body fat.
According to Wikipedia, fish oil comes from the tissues of oily fish. Fish do not actually create fish oil. Fish consume microalgae, and this microalgae is what actually creates the fish oil. Also, fish that consume other fish that have fish oil in them, can accumulate it that way. Fish that are naturally high with fish oil include, salmon, albacore tuna, sardines, mackerel, lake trout, and herring.
These types of fish are also predators and they accumulate lots of toxic substances into their bodies. This is why the FDA says you shouldn’t eat too much of these types of fish. Chemicals that have been tested in these fish are mercury, dioxin, PCBs and Chlordane. Taking fish oil is a much better alternative than eating high amounts of these type of fish.
The United States Institutes of Health, according to Wikipedia, says three conditions are highly useful when taking a fish oil supplement. The Institute says HyperHypertriglyceridemia, Secondary cardiovascular disease prevention and High blood pressure can all be helped with the consumption of fish oil. They go on to add that a person with these conditions should never take high doses of fish oil, as this could cause bleeding.
According to the Yahoo news report, the researchers said “Increasing intake of (omega-3 fatty acids) could be a useful adjunct to exercise programs aimed at improving body composition and decreasing cardiovascular disease risk”.
