As summer is upon us and more people are hiking and enjoying the outdoors, one thing remains constant. Every year people go into nature unprepared for the heat. Many times people go for a short hike and become lost or they do not take enough water with them and then become dehydrated before they can make it back to their camp or home. In this article, we will look at five easy ways to stay hydrated in the summer heat.
One of the best ways to stay hydrated this summer is not to allow yourself to be dehydrated in your normal day-to-day life. A majority of Americans walk around dehydrated, there is and old saying that if you pee white or clear you are hydrated, and if you pee yellow you are not. It is important to keep your body hydrated on a daily basis so that when you are hiking, you will not become dehydrated as easy.
The second suggestion that I have to stay hydrated in the summer heat is to carry plenty of water with you. If you are at home, make sure that you remember to drink water before you become thirsty. This is an important suggestion for children, since they often forget to drink water when they are having fun.
The third suggestion mainly applies to hiking; make sure that you carry more water than you will need. Every year people do not take enough water with them and they become de-hydrated. Another benefit to taking more water than you will need is you might find some one who did not take enough water with them. You could save their life.
The fourth way to stay hydrated in the summer heat is to stay in shape. Staying in shape will allow your body to put out that extra push when it really needs it. In addition, it is a fact that when people exercise properly they take in more liquids. When you are out of shape, your body uses more energy to do simple tasks.
For my fifth suggestion to stay hydrated in the summer heat, and since we are talking about staying hydrated, I believe it is important to talk about some of the options that we have for carrying water and other beverages designed to keep you hydrated. One of the best containers is the camel back. I like the camel back because you can buy them with there own carrier system or with molly set-ups to attach to back packs. Another one of my favorite systems to stay hydrated in the summer heat is the military style canteen, the military canteen can be purchased at an inexpensive price, and they are durable. You can also purchase a web belt that will allow you to carry at least two canteens at a time. Other water systems will allow you to stay hydrated this summer, however, the camel back and the military canteen are two that I use often, and they have proven themselves in the field.
