Over the past decade, leather has become more and more popular within the fashion world. But let’s face it: Leather isn’t cheap, and most of us probably won’t be able to afford more than one leather garment.
I never expected to own leather, even when I was working at a job that paid me well. I just wasn’t in to spending hundreds of dollars for a single piece of clothing, no matter what it was or who designed it.
I’ll admit that I went into Wilson’s Leather Goods more than once or twice and tried on jackets that were soft like butter. I figured that was as close as I was ever likely to get to leather. I was wrong.
About ten years ago a new designer joined the Home Shopping Network (HSN). Her name was Terry Lewis. She was a former on-air hostess for the network who had left them to establish her own buiness. She now designs her own line of luxury garments which, of course, she sells on HSN.
Although Terry has expanded into many other types of clothing over the years, she still focuses the bulk of her attention on her “Classic Luxury” line. That line is made up of leather, suede, and fur (fake, not real). I have to say her designs could easily go head to head with the best in the business.
Terry, of course, understands a woman’s body and because of that, she pays close attention to the cut and fit of each garment. Whether she is designing something for a size two or size twenty-two, she makes certain that her clothing flatters its wearer.
I’m not one to purchase a lot of expensive clothing. Even when I had the money to do that, it just seemed frivolous. I figured the money could just as easily go to something much more worthwhile.
However, one winter when I needed a new coat, I watched HSN for Terry’s show. I figured if anyone had what I was looking for it would be her. I was right!
My first Terry Lewis purchase was a stunning brown, faux-mink coat. I wondered almost immediately if I’d made a terrible mistake. After all, what kind of faux fur did I think I was going to get for under $70? Oh well, I thought to myself, I can always send it back with thirty days and get a full refund.
When the package finally arrived, I couldn’t believe my eyes. It opened to reveal a coat that looked like authentic mink. It even felt like mink. It was dyed perfectly like mink. And it was so warm and cozy when I put it on that I didn’t really want to take it off.
A few months later, I decided to purchase one of Terry’s leather jackets. I watched several shows before I settled on the perfect one. She had so many choices to choose from; plain leather, embellished leather, embossed leather, and fancy punch design leather. Everything looked beautiful.
I finally decided on a deep khaki color that I figured would go with almost anything. Again, I braced myself, expecting a leather jacket that was below $80 would not to be of very high quality. However, I didn’t need to worry. The jacket was exquisite.
The leather was soft and supple; even more so than the jackets that I’d tried on at Wilson Leather. The cut and fit of the jacket was exquisite. The detailing was first-rate. Everything about the jacket spelled “class.” That is, of course, except the inexpensive price.
Over the years, I’ve been lucky enough to purchase a couple more of Terry’s jackets; some in leather and some in suede. They are my favorite pieces of clothing because I can pair them with jeans for a casual look or dress them up with trousers for work. Add the right accessories and they can even work for eveningwear.
I’m actually surprised that Terry decided to sell on HSN. The quality of her clothing is worthy of high fashion recognition. But Terry insists she is right where she wants to be; selling high quality clothing that is cut and fit to a woman’s body that the everyday woman can afford.
I can wholeheartedly recommend Terry Lewis Classic Luxuries, whether it is outwear line or her leather and suede. She brings top-notch quality leather in designer colors that can fit a lot of women’s budgets. I promise: You’ll feel like a million bucks in virtually anything from her line. She’s that good!
