Moving into the dorms in college usually means that you don’t think you can afford an apartment or that you’re required to live there for your first year because of your school’s regulations. Either way while you’re in the dorms this Fall take it upon yourself to make some money while living there. It’s not hard, it’s actually quiet simple all you need is some commitment and the want for money, popularity, or just to start your entrepreneurship dream.
The following are ideas of business startups that can be done while living at the dorms. Whether these sound good to you or not, it’s definitely something to think about. Making money while in college isn’t always easy, but if you can do it right from your dorm then it’s worth a try isn’t it?
Business Idea 1:
Sell Snacks: When you’re living at the dorms people eat basically all snacks and junk food till it’s time to go and get a meal at the building’s cafeteria or cafe. During the time when meals are not being served students are usually starved. Selling snacks such as chips, pickles, soda’s, candies, and other things like that would really bring in profit. All you need to do is get the word out and purchase some supplies. For this you don’t need to start big at all; all you need is dedication. Think about this business idea, it’s definitly one of the best and most students would not mind paying about 50 cents more than the actual price so long as they don’t have to go to the store themselves.
Business Idea 2:
Typing: Are you fast when typing? How fast? If you’re faster than 50 words per minute you’re at an advantage. Most students average about 25-30 words per minute and some end up not turning in papers on time because of this. If you provide this service in the dorms it might get you quiet a bit of work; of this i’m sure. If you’re thinking that this is a good idea all you need to do is again get the word out and maybe put up some fliers. Make sure that you only type papers of people who turn in rough drafts and pay in advance. Don’t take on non-paying jobs as they are usually left unpaid at the end. Money will definitely be rolling in if you do this, but make sure to not take on more than you should.
Business Idea 3:
Computer Help- Has your computer ever crashed right before you had to finish an online quiz/test or right before you had to go to class and had to have your assignment ready? Well if you’re a good computer troubleshooter then you must’ve not had any problems if the above occurrences happened but what about all the other students in the dorms? I bet they’d like to have someone like you come help them and they’d even be willing to pay you for it. This business idea is one that could turn into something big. Usually computer technicians or computer support people who own their own business charge up to $100 per hour depending on the problem. If this sounds good to you and you’d like to try it the first thing you need to do is make sure that you’re qualified to take this on. Secondly get some fliers printed up with your phone number and maybe even an instant messaging email at which they can reach you. Name your prices for the basic things that you can do and then make sure to note that that’s not fixed.
Business Idea 4:
Beauty Help: If you’re a male this is probably not suited for you, although in some cases it may be. If you’re into beauty a lot and you know how to cut and dye hair, do people’s make up well or even know how to do manicures then this is perfect for you. Girls during college usually don’t have enough time to go to a salon to get all these things done therefore they all just don’t do it at all. If there was someone whom they could go to there at the dorms whom could provide this service for them they’d for sure be there. Think about this very seriously it could be a great business venture and you might even end up with a couple hundred bucks every two days depending on how many hours you put in.
Now that you’ve read this article go ahead and think about the options and maybe even get a partner to do this with. Good luck. Note: Speaking with your Resident Assistant (RA) would probably help you out a bit also; they’ll let you know if they think it’s a good or a bad idea.
