Summer vacation is now upon us in Charlotte, North Carolina. Sometimes it’s hard to come up with different activities every day of the week the keep the kids happy and the parents from going crazy. This summer, more than ever, families are trying to stick to a budget while still having fun with their kids. Here are four ideas for fun activities to do with your kids, in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, that won’t break the bank.
AMF Summer Bowling for Kids
Do your kids like to bowl? There aren’t too many who don’t. AMF Bowling is running a free kids bowling program. There are two locations in the Charlotte area. Go to www.kidsbowlfree.com/amf to sign up. After you register, your kids will receive each week, all summer long, free bowling passes by e-mail. These passes will entitle your children to bowl two free games a day for the entire summer. In addition, there is an option for parents to buy a “family pass” at the cost of $23.95. This pass will cover up to four adult family members and is good for two games of bowling per person, per day. It will be valid for the entire summer. (Please note that bowling shoes are not included for free.)
Summer Movie Camp
Several movies theaters in the Charlotte area offer free or low cost summer movies. First, a link to the AMC Summer Movie Camp with all the listings in the Charlotte Metro Area. These movies start Wednesday June 17, 2009 and run through August 5, 2009. The movies cost $1.00 per child. In addition, you can get a kids pack snack for only $3, which includes, kid-size popcorn, kid-size drink, and a small candy snack. Here is a link to the movies that will playing. All the movies start at 10:00 AM. You can also find free summer movies at Regal Free Family Film Festival. There are two theaters in the Charlotte area. At the Regal Theater they will show a (G) and a (PG) rated movie. Each movie will start at 10:00 AM Tuesdays and Wednesdays throughout the festival. The dates for the Regal Family Film Festival are June 16, 2009 through August 13, 2009. Another theater doing free kids movies this summer, in Charlotte, is the Ayrsley Grand Cinemas 14. Here is a link to their kids movie schedule. They will show their movies on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 AM, starting June 16, 2009.
There are five different spraygrounds in the Charlotte area. Here is a link to the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation website with all the locations. The spraygrounds opened for the season on May 15, 2009. All of the spraygrounds are open seven days a week from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM and most importantly, they’re free of charge.
Rockin & Reelin Summer Concert & Movies Series ’09 in Pineville
Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, food, family, and friends to see free movies and concerts this summer at Pineville Lake Park located at 1000 Johnston Dr. They have a pre-show, just for kids, that starts at 7:00 PM. All movies will start at dusk, approximately 8:15 to 8:30 PM. The concerts will get “tuned up” at 7:00 PM.
