Len and I attended a seminar at a local hotel that lasted a couple of hours, and we didn’t have to purchase anything. But for our time, we got a reward. It was two nights in a Holiday Inn at Orlando and two free attraction tickets.
On completion of the seminar we had to send a $50 deposit and 3 dates for our vacation with 45 days between them. The first date got declined, and so did the second, by the time we sent the third one we thought it was a scam.
To our surprise we got our confirmation number for the 25th, 26th, and returning the 27th July. We paid the hotel taxes out of that $50 refundable deposit and waited for our details in the mail.
As soon as we found out it was the Holiday Inn SunSpree Resort I pulled the details up on my computer and printed them out.
We were to get a standard room with 2 Queen beds with a kitchenette.
We had to pick up our hotel voucher at a tourist booth on Hwy 192. This we did and also received our 2 Disney tickets. We also booked a timeshare for the Wednesday morning for another 2 free Disney tickets.
Check in time for the Holiday Inn was 4.00 p.m. but we arrived at 2.00 p.m. We came north on S.R.535 and it was just before the intersection with Vineland.
Len dropped me off and parked up. There was only one person at the front desk so I had to wait about 10 minutes until my turn. The gentleman was extremely helpful, and when we asked for a room as high as possible, he gave us one on the top floor. We were in room 635 and had to drive to the rear right side of the building. Len found a cart and we headed up to our room in one of the 2 elevators. The outside was a long open corridor so people could walk pass your room. We had a credit card style key for the room.
As we walked into the room to the left were 2 queen size beds with a chest of drawers, a table and 2 lamps. There was a telephone, clock radio, and telephone books. To the right was a television and video player, in a unit with drawers below. Next to this were 2 armchairs and a table, with a standing lamp. The carpet was a green/beige color. The bed covers were in the same tones.
Walking into the next room there was an area for hanging your clothes with an iron and board by the side of it. In front of it were a small fridge/freezer, a microwave oven, and a cupboard above. They also provided a coffee maker and a starter pack for it. This room had a small sink and a counter top with cupboard space below with a free safe in it.
The bathroom had a single basin with counter space each side and plenty of cupboards below and there was a hairdryer on the wall. Plenty of mirrors to the side, front, and on the back of the door so there was no problems checking the back of my hair. Then the toilet, a bath (tub) with a pulsating shower head, shampoo, and soap. Both these rooms were tiled. There were plenty of clean white towels.
I have to say that we always stay in timeshares so this was a let down for us. However, when I think of Len’s sister and the rooms she has had in Orlando, this was better than most.
The beds were very comfortable and Len and I would have slept if it hadn’t have been for the air conditioning unit under the window. It was like having a train going through our room every few minutes.
On the Wednesday after doing the timeshare and getting our free tickets, we went to the Outlet Mall on Vineland. This is a really nice one and just around the corner from the hotel. Len then relaxed in our room while I headed downstairs. Firstly I went into the hotel foyer and looked around. There was a gift shop, a movie theater, and a couple of restaurants. Then I headed to the pool area. I used one of the hot tubs and the swimming pool. One part of the pool was sectioned off for the smaller children. Free pool towels were available. Then I went into the changing room to dry off. I took a look at the gym that was next door. There was also a bar in the pool area.
From looking on the notice boards there were lots of activities for the children. Everywhere was bright and colorful including the outside of the building.
We didn’t eat at their restaurant but opposite were a couple of restaurants and more on the corner. The choices were endless.
The hotel provided a newspaper to your room each morning.
Standard room price $200. Kids suites $250 a night. Ours cost us $37 for taxes for 2 nights.
