A friend of mine has spent the past five years searching for a doctor in the Quad Cities. Genesis is one of the most popular hospitals in the area of Davenport to be affiliated with different doctors. As we all deal with is that we always get sick, hurt or in trauma when we have no money in their pocket.
Yet, what if that person spends thousands of dollars paying those medical bills and still service is refuse. It is a county hospital so they can not refuse service at the hospital. However, everyone has the right to a family doctor to have follow ups after you’ve been seen on an emergency basis. Especially, when one of the children is deaf and has other health issues.
Most of all no child should have services refused for any medical assistance. This is what is happening in Davenport, Iowa. All doctors that are affiliated with Genesis Medical Center is refusing to see two children of my friend. The reason why is after paying the bills off that they have been refused for the past five years while the bills were being paid, these doctors offices are now saying that there is a remainder of $30.00. Yet, the doctor offices sent a over payment to my friend. If she was sent a refund for over payment, certainly that $30.00 no longer exists.
I was baffled as this city is mostly Genesis affiliated doctors. Not to mention since the one child is deaf he receives medical for his treatment and finding a doctor that will accept that medical is near impossible with out Genesis slapped onto the side of the doctor’s building.
Once the bills were straightened out after a period of traveling to another city that is 100 miles away for medical provisions, those two children are still banned to Genesis Medical Centers. The doctor said that in the past five years that they were banned they never kept any of their appointments. That statement makes absolutely no sense since they were banned in that five year time period. They never had a scheduled appointment to attend.
I myself have had numerous problems with Genesis medical center and the hospitals as well. I had recently found out that I had an incurable disease and they soon sent me on an emotional roller coaster ride that I could no longer handle. I found a different doctor, then another different doctor. All of the ones that were affiliated with Genesis had the same rude receptionist and the same uncaring doctors that would verbally bash their patients and did not care if you could not make the appointment the following week because of your car breaking down. Regardless if you notified them ahead of time it was still a rude reaction that I met.
Through my course of treatment I would tell them my symptoms and I was met with the snide comment that they were the doctors and they would tell me what my symptoms were, and they would treat those symptoms. It didn’t matter if their symptoms that they told me I was having were the symptoms I was having.
Given this stunt that Genesis pulled with a grown adult to learn that the process does not stop there with them, instead they are putting a ban on two children’s health provisions. Where would you go to the doctor when your children are sick when a ban is placed on your children? Should the children really be the ones that are punished in this situation? Final question I ask you, do today’s doctors even care about the patient or the money the patient will give them?
Imagine the first doctors that carried the black bag on horse back across the old west, who did they care about? Nothing stopped them from coming to the side of their patient, not snow, not rain, and not the money was a matter. Yes, technology has changed doctors way of life, and no longer do they come to our bed sides, which is in fact where the slang bed side manner originated. The fact is more has changed with doctors than just the technology. Now, they slap a label on your ailments, give you some prescriptions, or refuses your service.
