Something that someone tries to remember to do before they give a gift to someone is removing the price tag or at least marking it out with a pen or marker. While this is completely understanding and often can take the attention away from someone concerned with how much the gift cost you, it does cause some problems in certain situations.
If you give someone a gift and you take the price tag off, they may not be able to return it. Everyone hopes that the gift that they choose to give to someone is something that the recipient would like and enjoy and wouldn’t be contemplating returning it in order to get something else that they would prefer more, but it is a possibility. Hopefully in the end you would want the gift recipient to have something that they would enjoy and wouldn’t mind if they did in fact return the particular item that you gave them. This is just one of the reasons that leaving the price tag on the gift can be a good idea, there are other reasons that having the price tag intact on the item can be helpful for the gift recipient.
There is a chance that the gift that you chose to give is something that someone else chose to give the same person. When this is the case it is unlikely that the gift recipient would want two of the same thing and would need to exchange the gift for something else, as long as the price tag was on the item they could likely still get store credit even if they do not have the receipt. As well, there is a chance that the gift that you choose to give someone is something that they already have, resulting again in them needing to take it back for something else.
Sometimes the item that you picked out for someone is something that they really like and can’t wait to use but they can’t use it because it is defective. In the event that they need to exchange the gift for a functioning item having the price tag on the item at the time of exchanging it can help ensure that the store will in fact exchange the item for your gift recipient. Now as well as not working there is a chance that the item is only in the wrong size and the gift recipient will need the price tag on it in order get the same item only a different size.
So in short, if the person who you are giving a gift already has the exact item that you gave them, or something very similar to it, need to exchange it for a different size, if they honestly do not care for the gift and would rather have something else or if when they try and use it they discover that it is defective having the price tag still on can really be a good thing. Don’t forget if they are likely to try and return somewhere they can easily find out what the price was anyway.
