Any time a book is adapted into a movie a lot of information is left out of the movie because it is hard to fit everything in a movie. In the Harry Potter books, there are a lot of spells that are never seen in the books. Here is a guide to all the spells used starting with the letter G and H and if you have never read the books some of them may be new to you.
The Geminio spell can be cast on an object in order to make a duplicate of it. Throughout the series of Harry Potter books the Geminio spell is used several times, including when Hermione uses the Geminio spell to make a second copy of Salazar Slytherin’s locket in Harry Potter and the Deathy Hallows. I wonder if all this time the Weasley twins were just a Geminio spell gone wrong.
If someone uses the Gemino Curse on an object, it will make several duplicates any time it is touched. The Gemino Curse is also seen in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when Harry Potter, Hermione, Ron, and Griphook break into the Lestrange vault.
The Glisseo spell causes a set of stairs to flatten, making a slide. In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Hermione uses the spell to escape Death Eaters. This spell also comes in handy if you want to start an amusement park or a haunted house.
The Gripping Charm is another one of those spells that you would never know what it does by the name of it. The Gripping Charm helps you grip, surprising eh? The Gripping Charm is most often used in Quidditch. I also have reason to believe the Gripping Charm is the real reason for Barry Bonds’ homerun record.
My brother is very anti-Harry Potter, but this is one spell he could use himself. The Hair-Thickening Charm allows people to grow hair. My brother would need it for the top of his head but in Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix it is actually used to grow back Alicia Spinnet’s eyebrows.
The healing spell can be used to heal bad injuries. Even though it seems like one of the most helpful spells Harry Potter never learns it. Severus Snape and Dumbledore both use the healing spell in the Harry Potter books and Hermione seems to have a little bit of knowledge in healing spells.
The Hex Deflection spell is much like the Shield Charm. The difference is a Shield Charm will only stop the spell from effecting you, the Hex Deflection will send the spell back at the attacker and effect them. In Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Professor Moody teaches a class about the Hex Deflection.
Homenum Revelio is used to reveal humans that can’t be seen for some reason, usually invisibility. We also learn that Homenum Revelio can be cast aloud or can be non-verbal. Dumbledore uses the non-verbal kind to detect Harry Potter, even though he is using his invisibility cloaks.
In the Harry Potter books some wizards and witches are called an Animagus. An Animagus has the ability to freely change between a human and an animal. With the Homorphus Charm a wizard can turn an Animagus into their human form. In the Harry Potter books the Homorphus Charm is used to turn the Wagga Wagga Werewolf and Peter Pettigrew back into their human forms.
The Horcrux Curse is one of the most mysterious spells in the Harry Potter books. It is so mysterious that JK Rowling herself has declined to say what the Horcrux Curse does.
The Hot-Air Charm can be used to blow hot air. Hermione and Dumbledore both use the Hot-Air Charm to dry clothes. Ron Weasley also uses this spell every time he talks.
The Hurling Hex will cause a broom to try and buck the rider off of them. In Harry Potter and the Philospher’s Stone Professor Flitwick tells Harry Potter that his broom has been jinxed with the Hurling Hex.
