You won’t have to go further than your TV or the Radio Stations today to hear about yet another Celebrity in Trouble. It has become just another way to keep them-selves in fame or in some cases infamy. Perhaps by bringing them-selves to a more “average Joe” level they are hoping to regain our sympathy and understanding. They have in some ways become the anticlimactic Heroes and Heroines of our modern age. We follow the various and plentiful Court Cases of Brittney Spears, Paris Hilton and O.J. Simpson. We shake our heads at yet another stunt of Michael Vick and his Dog Fighting Trial as he twists and worms his way out of trouble.
From Tabloid Headlines to the lunchroom of almost every school, celebrity scandals are in the mouth of more then 80% of the US Population. We are appalled, disturbed and in some cases amused at what they have done now. Some of us are rightfully outraged at what they get away with, but is that far enough?
When Brittney Spears is allowed to drive drunk, high and more all over the California Highways with nothing more then a slap on her hands, we are not only sending the wrong picture, but are putting real life everyday people in mortal danger. Anyone else would have been put into Jail by now for repeatedly defying the justice system. Here however we are more indulgent, she is a very disturbed person after all and it can not be easy for her. But she isn’t the only one cashing in on her fame, no Ted Susan with his more then obnoxious and pathetic Video rendition of; Leave Britney Spears alone; has come to fame riding on the attention tailcoat of her.
Is she however only getting the better end of the stick? I don’t believe so. Her newest custody problem with Justin Timberlake is jet a prime example of how justice has gone blind. She is ordered not to be drinking within 12 Hours of being with her kids. No like rule is applied to him. If she violates this ruling (and of course she has and will – she is an alcoholic!) she will have her kids taken away. Here she gets of harder then the rest of us, I know many Alcoholics that should have their children removed and don’t for the same reason. Why is justice blind sided when it comes to certain things, and in others it is trying to make an example?
Paris Hilton has found God we were glad to know just as soon as she went to her excruciating Jail sentence of laughable proportions. Michael Vick didn’t even need to enter those hollowed religious walls. Perhaps we should consider turning Churches into Jailhouses, the conversation Rate of Sinners to True BELIEVERS seems to be much better there. Just a thought for the Powers that be.
What has she carried away with her from this? Another Money making opportunity. Where others have their lives destroyed for doing a really stupid mistake, celebrities make more money. The Judges are more concerned about the limelight in most cases then the justice system.
I bring the question to you. Should Celebrity Status automatically exclude a person from having to be treated with the same measuring stick as one that works 40 hrs a day just to feed his or her family? Is drug use and fatalities on the street, more excusable in a famous person then in a regular one?
So why has this even become possible? The truthful answer has to point the finger back at us the everyday person on the street. We the ones (and yes even me with writing this article) that are giving the time of day to these problems. If we were to turn our heads, quit putting on the news when it is displayed, refused to purchase the Tabloid that exploit the stupidity of the National Celebrities, then it would change. This isn’t an opinion, but a hardcore fact. Interest sells copy and copy equals exposure. More exposure equals more lenient behavior in our Justice System, since they too depend on the goodwill of the masses for reelection. You see, we the little people by our behaviors and actions hold a lot more sway then we have any idea about. You want something to end, then act in accordance with the action you wish to produce. Simply protesting and then doing exactly what you protested against is not going to help.
Besides the obvious reasons of Celebrity misbehavior being dangerous like drunk driving, open violence et cetera, it is also an open invitation for those in search of fame to mimic this intolerable behavior and then point to them as the measuring stick by which they have judged their actions. Our Young by know think that breaking the laws is cool. Do we really want that on our head? I would even go as far as linking the ever increasing publicized school shooting to this. How? It is just another 15 minutes of fame for bad behavior with others having to pay the price. The Media is more then happy to supply the news feed and the criminal the deed. All is served well in the multimillion dollar business of celebrity status and criminality induced fame. I challenge you to think about it and notice if you don’t see the point I am trying to make.
We have gone too far in our Celebrity Worship. Perhaps, just perhaps, it is time we hold everyone equally accountable for their actions and that includes celebrities and the judges that let them off easy. More importantly, maybe it is time to turn the channel on the next hyper imposed scandal by yet another washed up mega super star. And instead of droning on about yet another school shooting – which by the way is horrible and inexcusable – we need to make the punishment equaling the deeds more serious. Remember, not all of them shoot them-selves right after.
I leave you with those thoughts and I am sure I may just have offended a bit. But I know that there are millions of others that agree with me out there. My Owner has told me that one person can not change anything and I disagree. It was one voice that has started a lot of revolutions in the world that have changed a lot of big things. Maybe it is this mindset of today’s America that one voice is powerless that has allowed these things to happen. Here was my little voice; maybe a few more will speak up.
