Homemade pizza can be tailored to individual tastes and preferences, but when there is no time available to make a pizza from scratch, take away pizza or shop bought pizza are the other options that many people choose. The possibilities are endless.
While I was home in the UK recently, I had a chance to try a different kind of pizza that I had not yet tried. My friend suggested I help her pick out a pizza to have for dinner. It was hard to choose from such a large range of pizzas. There were low in fat, vegetarian, Weight Watcher’s pizzas and many other varieties of pizza. It took quite some time to narrow it down to Healthy Living Margherita Pizza by Tesco.

I love the taste of pizza, but I also like to choose healthy meal options whenever possible, which is why this pizza looked so tempting. The product details stated “A pizza base topped with Mediterranean slow roasted tomato and reduced fat provolone and mozzarella cheese”. As I was not after a ham or pepperoni pizza, and I enjoy Mediterranean food and Mediterranean-style food, I picked out this pizza.
Healthy Living Margherita Pizza by Tesco is not suitable for people who are allergic to milk or gluten. But it does not contain any nut products, so this would be fine for people who have to beware of nuts.
There were 385 calories in every 205g, 7.2g sugar, 2.2g of saturated fat, 0.9g of salt in every serving. The nutrition information shows that this is a sensible choice for people on a low fat diet, but what did it taste like?
I was looking forward to trying Healthy Living Margherita Pizza by Tesco and finding out whether or not I had made a good choice. Once the pizza was cooked and I bit into it, I noticed that it was very doughy. As I do not care too much for pizza bases, I continued to eat hoping that the Mediterranean vegetables would compensate for my initial impression of the pizza.
Unfortunately, the pizza was not as tasty as I had hoped. The tomatoes did not contain much flavour and apart from the cheese, there was nothing at all appealing about the pizza. It was rather disappointing. Although this was a reduced fat pizza, I did not expect it to taste so bland. It did not have any real flavour to it at all.
I would certainly not choose this pizza again and I would not recommend it. Choosing to make healthy eating a part of your life should not mean compromising taste just so you can shave off a few extra calories or grams of fat.
