Orange County, New York and Orange County, California might as well be night and day. In Orange County, California (or at least so the television tells me) are crazy rich women living off of Botox and easily fooled by appearance versus reality. Orange County, New York on the other hand is something of a throwback to the 1970s. There are craftspeople and artists and hippies and truck drivers and it’s a very refreshing getaway for a city boy who is strangely becoming increasingly concerned with the influence of others rather than the personal work and individual fulfillment. So a recent visit to Orange County, New York reminded me of this and one of the places I happened upon along the way was called Sugar Loaf. Sugar Loaf is heralded as “the best-kept secret in New York,” and is an arts and crafts village which was established in 1749. Sugar Loaf is a hamlet located off of Route 13 with really just one or two main streets. However some might even argue that Sugar Loaf is a little bit closer to Heaven than anywhere else just based on a number of the names of the businesses in the town.
Heavenly Sense (1371B Kings Highway/Romers Alley Sugar Loaf, NY 10981. 845-721-1218) One of these places which was a very interesting was called Heavenly Sense. Heavenly Sense is a “magical world of metaphysical products for self-discovery and spiritual enlightenment.” If you are looking for aromatherapy, Goddess statutory, runes, candles, incense, Native American crafts, herbs, potions, magic wands, wizards, fairies, or love, these can all be found at Heavenly Sense.
Heaven’s Gate (845-986-2933) Another spot in Sugar Loaf evoking Heaven which promises quote a life-changing experience,” is called Heaven’s Gate. Heaven’s Gate offers “the work of reconnective healing.” They offer group or individual healing sessions and classes; according to the resident reconnective healing practitioner of Heaven’s Gate, Dr. Joan Aiello, “my intention is that after you come and experience the grace of Heaven’s Gate, you will leave in joy and with the singing heart.” Just a note for people visiting Sugar Loaf, Heaven’s Gate has private sessions by appointment only so make sure to call ahead of time.
Simpson Originals (1379 King’s Highway Sugar Loaf, NY 10981 845-469-1222) While this is a location does not evoke Heaven in their title, shopkeeper “Cheryl invites you to discover your angel wings in this one-of-a-kind Angel store.” At Simpson Originals they invite you to experience the “serenity of clouds, essences of angels, and the faerie realm.” At Simpson Originals there are angel inspired gifts, artwork, books, porcelain fairies, cards, and much more which will “inspire your inner child and expand your vision.”
There are many other galleries, restaurants, bed and breakfasts, shops, general stores, and other places to shop and things to do in Sugar Loaf, New York. However these three locations in Sugar Loaf offer the customer a chance to get a little bit closer to Heaven.
