After Tiffany’s departure the Red Team heads back to their living quarters in disheartened silence. In the bedroom area Bonnie talks with Melissa about the harsh words from Chef Ramsay while in the living room Joanna states she will never be up on the chopping block for elimination again. In the Blue Teams living room the men try to get Aaron to eat something and get a much needed rest. Both teams settle down for a good nights rest around 3:00 a.m. but in Hell’s Kitchen that is not always possible. Around 6:00 a.m. sous chefs MaryAnn and Scott enter both living quarters banging on pots to wake the teams up for a meeting with Chef Ramsay.
Gathered in the dining room both teams listen to Chef Ramsay on the cost of wasting food in the restaurant business. To help them learn Chef announces they will be catching their own fish for that evening’s dinner service and tells them to follow him outside. Chef walks up to the truck behind the restaurant and raises the door to show the fish piled up on a bed of ice. As each contestant comes forward, a fish monger throws a fish from the back of the truck for the contestant to put into their bucket. Once the buckets were filled Chef orders the contestants to return to the kitchen with their buckets of fish. On the way Aaron gets a cramp and is unable to help Eddie carry the bucket down the hall into the kitchen.
Chef announces that the reward challenge is to properly prepare the Dover sole. Aaron’s cussing and crying catches Chef’s attention and he sends Aaron back to the living quarters for some rest. The rules of the challenge are to remove the skin without damaging the fish and to remove the roe from the fish. Both teams have to do as many as possible and up to Chef’s standards all in thirty minutes. Team with the most will win. On the Blue team Eddie only had one of his two make it into the acceptable pile. Brad had two accepted, Vinnie had none, and Rock had only one of his accepted. It was up to Josh and he was able to get all four of his into the accepted pile making it 8 for the Blue team.
On the Red team Melissa was first and all four of her fish were put into the accepted pile. Short-order cook Julia was able to get two added to the accepted pile. Bonnie and Jen were unable to contribute any fish for the Red team. Behind the Blue team by two fish it was up to Joanna to pull the Red team to victory and she had only three fish to present to Chef. All three of Joanna’s fish made it into the accepted pile making the Red team 9 fish to the Blue team’s 8 fish. The Red team won a Pacific fishing excursion and lunch with Chef Ramsay. The losing team would stay behind and prep every Dover sole in the restaurant for that night’s dinner service.
After four hours Aaron joins the men in the kitchen and informs them that he is thinking about quitting the competition. All the men convince Aaron that he needs to stay and Aaron agrees with them. On the boat Chef Ramsay is the only person to catch a fish which he claims is no bigger than Eddie. At lunch Chef tells the women that they need to start acting like a team because they are all worthy of being there in Hell’s Kitchen.
The women are back from their trip and Bonnie decides to get comfortable. She walks into the shared living area with very little clothing on to the amusement of the guys. During this time Aaron is having a private talk with Julia about being intimidated by the experience and youthfulness of his team mates. Julia replies that he needs to stop feeling sorry for himself and realize that he is just as good as his team mates.
Before dinner service Chef gathers both teams to announce they will be serving pan fried Dover sole and one person from the losing team (Blue) will be de-boning the Dover sole table-side. Aaron is chosen for table-side duty. As Chef starts explaining what his duties are Aaron faints into a nearby chair.
Once Aaron is back on his feet Chef tells Jean Phillip to open Hell’s Kitchen. Both kitchens receive their first order. Chef turns around and sees Aaron walking around the dining room talking to the costumers. He quickly shouts at Jean Phillip to go get that f*** donkey out of there. Chef turns to the Blue kitchen and asks Eddie for the spaghetti. Chef receives the order and it is a big clump of pasta. Chef shouts at Eddie for the mess, tells the men to leave Eddie alone and tells Eddie to take control of his station. Forty-five minutes into the service and Eddie’s pasta problems have brought the Blue kitchen to a halt.
In the Red kitchen Chef finds out Bonnie has misunderstood and is cooking three orders of scallops instead of one. He leans over and yells “Are you a dumb blond”. Bonnie tries to shake off the insult. Back in the Blue kitchen Vinnie tries to cook the Dover sole special. Chef asks Vinnie if the fish is burnt but Vinnie answers no so the Chef says put them on the hot plate. Chef inspects the food and calls Vinnie up to the front. Chef shows Vinnie the burnt fish and wonders out loud why Vinnie can never tell the truth. He orders Vinnie to do it over and now it is Vinnie’s cooking that is holding up the Blue kitchen.
The Red kitchen is pushing out appetizers due to Jen’s leadership and the costumers’ are appreciative. Vinnie has finally started to get the Dover out to the dining room where it is now up to Aaron to de-bone the fish. Jean Phillip tries to encourage Aaron to do it quickly but it still takes Aaron 15 minutes to de-bone the first fish. This causes the fish to be served cold to the costumer. Eddie’s risotto has made it up to Chef and it is inedible. Spitting out the peppery risotto Chef claims that it shouldn’t even be served to a pig. This bad risotto has caused another halt in the Blue kitchen.
Chef orders Eddie off the station and for Brad to take over. In the Red kitchen Joanna has forgotten to prepare the lettuce for the next order. Chef catches her trying to correct this mishap and is upset that she didn’t volunteer the information. Joanna continues to work and tries to hide her crying from Chef Ramsay. The Red kitchen has served 23 of its 50 patrons while the Blue kitchen has only served nine.
Josh’s first Beef Wellington is given to Chef under cooked. His next try comes up raw. Chef screams that they are sinking like the Titanic. In the dining room Aaron’s de-boning is not going well because he is leaving some of the bones in the fish. Jean Phillip alerts Chef Ramsay that all the costumers Aaron has served are complaining. Chef orders Aaron back to kitchen and asks him what is wrong. Aaron claims that it is too dark and he feels that he is rushing.
Melissa is caught be Chef over at Joanna’s station and is ordered back to her own station. He informs the Red kitchen they only have three more tables to serve so they need to hold it together. Red kitchen pulls it together and completes their share of the dinner service. Three hours into the service Brad serves a risotto to match Eddie’s last risotto disaster, Josh’s chicken is dry and Chef slaps the plate of chicken across the stove in disgust. Chef calls the entire Blue team into the kitchen and berates each member for their failings. Unable to stand their screw ups Chef kicks the Blue team out of the kitchen.
Chef informs the Red team that they will now be finishing the Blue team’s dinner service. The Red team jumps in and completes the dinner service with no complaints. After the last patron has left Chef calls the Blue team back into the kitchen and lets them know there is no question that the Red team won. He points out that Aaron had no business walking around the dining room talking to the costumers, Vinnie tries to cover up cooking mistakes and Eddie’s cooking was terrible. Rock is picked as the best of the worst and must nominate two team mates for elimination. Back in the dorms Eddie states to Rock that himself, Aaron and Vinnie are the best choices for the chopping block but the he (Eddie) has great prepping skills. Aaron doesn’t even try to defend himself but tells Rock he enjoyed working with him. Josh only states he doesn’t want to go home.
Rock nominates Eddie because he thinks Eddie needs to come out of his small guy shell. Next for nomination is Josh because Rock felt that Josh was all over the place. Eddie tells Chef that he has learned a lesson that night that he needs to speak up and stand up for himself. Chef tells Josh that he thinks Josh is one big fake and not one of his dishes went out. Josh claims he wants a chance to redeem himself for being thrown out of the kitchen and he will do better. Chef decides to give Josh another chance. Eddie is out.
Chef Ramsay’s final words: Eddie has a big heart but couldn’t hold his own section. He made too many simple mistakes and didn’t merit owning his own restaurant.
