Four years ago, after being with out a computer for 4 years I purchased the Compaq Presario SR1538X. I couldn’t wait to get it home and hook it up and get back on line again.
You see 4 years prior to that I owned a NEC with a Pentium 1 chip. Well here in Wisconsin when it rains most of the time we get lightening too. I had my computer on a surge protector, but the lightening hit the phone line and went through the house to my computer, and bang she went. I found out the mother board had been totally fried and my insurance would only give me $300.00 for it as it was 3 years old (and it would cost over $600.00 to fix or replace the CPU). So with living on a farm(and all it’s expenses) it took a good 4 years to get the money together to purchase a new one.
I purchased my Compaq Presario SR1538X from Office Max. As I don’t know that much about computers, I asked the sales clerk does this have a Pentium chip in it. Of course he said yes. Well needless to say it doesn’t have one(I can update and add another hard drive later). I got it home and hooked it up early that afternoon. The set up was a easy,(all the cords are color coded and they also are on the CPU) put the CD in, and follow step by step and I was ready to go, except for the Internet, so I called my ISP (Internet Service Provider) and they gave me the instructions, and hooked me up right there and then, and I was on line(there was no instruction manual, the manual was on my computer to copy to CD). When I got to the Desktop, a wizard program popped up to take me step by step through the set up of my computer, which only takes a few minutes.
I have a 15 inch flat LCD Monitorwith built in speakers with excellent sound, and volume control, (and doesn’t take up so much room). The monitor is a flat silver or pewter(and has buttons on the side for power, auto/select, volume and menu) very modern looking, but also sleek in design. I have always liked what Hewlett Packard designs and computers. This one isn’t boxy like all of the others I have had. And the CPU(is in black and silver or pewter and so is the computer), this time I finally have a tower. With a DVD/+RW/CD-RW burner and player, It has plug in for a microphone, USB & USB 2.0, headphones, S-video, media players, and composite. I have another porthole for another drive or to install a floppy, or zip drive. The keyboard is light touch, (so you don’t have to be pushing down on the keys so hard, and my CPU runs quietly. It will run a little louder, like a fan is running when it is updating. I found out the reason mine is doing that is because I am on dial-up and it takes longer for programs to update or upload. DSL or cable it only suppose to take a matter of minutes to upload these programs.
My Compaq Presario computer is one of the easiest to run compared to my past computers. On the tower there is button to turn your computer on (this is also your off button). Once on it will take you to the Desktop, where your icons (programs you are using) are. You just click on the double computers where your ISP (Internet Service Provider is) and select connect and dial. Wait a few seconds and you are online. Then all you have to do is select Internet explorer and you are ready to explore the Internet. I was amazed at how much faster my Presario is compared to my past computers. Once I am on the Internet, it takes a few seconds for the window to open to what I am working on. I am able to open several different tabs, so that I can be on different areas of the Internet at once. I do not need to have Internet Explorer on if I am using lets say Micro Soft Money, I just go to the desktop, click on Microsoft money and I am ready to start filling in data for the farm. If you have a printer, you are also able to print what ever document you are working on. Or you can save your work to CD. Working with my media players, they open immediately, and it shows you step by step how to use it. My Compaq presario also comes with a Compaq organizer for every program that is on my computer. If you are unable to find something you just select Compaq organizer a window pops up and you can select what you need. For the DVD/CD player burner, you just push the button, the door opens and you put in your CD/DVD and lightly touch it and it closes, then a wizard pops up to take you through the steps to start copying or burning. For your Programs, there are tutorials to help you learn how to use them and they take you step by step.
If you are having a problem with your computer and can not solve it the first thing to do is shut it down, put your finger on the
I absolutely love my SR1538X Presario Compaq(PX799AA) PC Desktop. It is actually faster than my past computer, it has everything I need. I have so much security set up on it now, that where ever I go on the Internet, it will warn me of questionable sites, and possible hackers. It comes with everything a beginner or a buyer would need. It may not be what most people need, but, it suits my needs just fine.
suggestion: take some time to go through the tutorials to learn about your system and programs.
My husband has even gotten interested, but, is only brave enough to stay on one site.
3300 + AMD Athlon, 64 processor
1.06 GB PC3200 memory
160 GB Hard Drive
I would recommend the SR1538X Compaq Presario for anyone that is just beginning with computers.
But, I do highly recommend before going out and buying a computer to take time and look up exactly what will serve your needs. Also don’t be afraid to ask question after question of your sales person, and if you don’t feel that this person knows a lot about computers then ask for another sales person. After all you are the one purchasing the computer and you have this right.
