Are you thinking of buying or selling a home in the Butte, Montana area? I am a real estate investor who has purchased three properties in Butte and have had a very positive experience with Mountain View Inspections. It is a small business run by William A. Willman. Butte, MT can be a very tricky place to purchase a home. Most of the homes are at least 100 years old and along with this can come a lot of hidden dangers. I was interested in purchasing a home and decided to put it under contract. The seller was a private individual and I asked him upfront if there was any problem with the property and he assured me that there wasn’t. Against the advice of my real estate agent, and as a precaution I decided to have the property inspected prior to purchase. I had used William before and was confident that if there was a problem that he would be able to find it.
Right up front, William found several small problems that I thought that I could probably work though with the seller. At one point during the inspection William pointed out to me that the shower in the master bath did not have the capability to get much hotter than lukewarm. This is William’s attention to detail that I think is lacking in many other inspectors that I have used. I would have never thought to check the water temperature in the shower prior to buying a home!
As the inspection progressed we reached the point of wanting to look in the crawl space. We were able to get into one part of the crawl space and everything looked okay. But the part of the house that had been added on to did not seem to have any access. I was ready to let it go at that, but William was insistent on trying to get access to the other space. He pulled up a piece of carpet and discovered a hidden access hatch. We crawled down inside and discovered that three walls were Covered in Mold! I called the seller and let him know about what had been discovered. He insisted that he did not know about the presence of the mold, but I found that hard to believe considering that an extensive amount of plumbing work had been done recently next to the mold and he must have seen it. Needless to say I decided to back out of the sale.
If it wasn’t for Williams persistence and desire to perform a complete job I could have wound up purchasing this home and had been stuck with a nightmare! Mountain View also does Radon mitigation and it performs a before and after test to make sure that the problem has been taken care of. I would recommend Mountain View Inspections to anyone who wants the job done right!
