Cheeseburger and French fries, and hot dogs seem to be America’s most popular dishes. Everywhere one looks unhealthy food is being advertised and devoured. Convenience stores and grocery stores are stocked with processed junk foods, restaurants are stocked with all type of grease laden dishes. It is not only food but alcohol and tobacco are distributed alike. Why is it that America is content on promoting such a descending lifestyle?
The obesity rate is soaring in the United Sates, in fact there is an obesity epidemic, and it is affecting children as young as two. Many more are being diagnosed with diabetes, cardiovascular disease and asthma, with all the disease you would think that a ban on these foods would be established. Why does it seem as though America is promoting an unhealthy lifestyle? Well the answer to this inquiry is easy; money and economy. The fast food industry is a very profitable industry just like the tobacco and alcohol industry, and America shies away from anything that might hurt those industries, because when those industries generate profit, the economy benefits despite how detrimental these products are to the human health. Educational television series to steer people away from such descending lifestyles, continuous advertisement of healthy foods, and bans on unhealthy foods are all things that while benefit people can hurt the economy, and that is why not much of these things are emphasized in a consistent manner to the public.
America is afraid of loosing money, but who says the people of America, and the environment has to suffer for profit? There are many ways that the people, and economy, can benefit, and these methods will only prove successful if certain organizations and media outlets come together and execute these plans, and the plans are as followed.
In place of fast food commercials, there should be commercials advertising vegan or vegetarian cuisines from vegan/vegetarian restaurants.
In place of junk food commercials there should be commercials advertising vegan/vegetarian junk foods, and yes vegetarian/vegan junk food does exist from chocolate to donuts to cookies.
Advertisements for these vegan/vegetarian foods should run just a freely as the original fast food restaurant and junk food commercials, so that people become familiar with the. There should be American eat out days in which the occupants of cities and towns get together to samples the new vegan and vegetarian foods.
Healthy unprocessed foods should be served to students in school, foods should be freshly prepared, and parents of course would have to pay for their child’s lunch.
Fast food chains should be torn down and forgotten with the exception of Subway. The fast food chains should be ordered by law to build new restaurant chains that only prepare and serve healthy foods.
The new food should fly off of the shelves just as the processed foods, when prepared right vegan/vegetarian food is delicious. Of course some marketing is going to be needed to get people to eat these foods, and celebrities, everyday people and authoritative officials could be called to do this.
Animals should not be culled for food, in a consistent manner, not in a demand- profit manner but only to prevent (their) overpopulation, and people should pay to purchase the meat, which will fly off the shelves since it would not be so available any more.
Health/nutrition classes should be mandatory for every citizen of the country.
Perhaps having everyone being a vegan/vegetarian may be unrealistic so, another idea that will allow Americans to enjoy the fatty foods they love without jeopardizing their health a great deal would be, if their consumption of fatty foods is monitored. People could be given food cards with their name and ID number on it, each time they frequented a fast food restaurant they would have their food cards filled in a manner that would show what they ate, how much they ate and how many calories they consumed. They would be required to do this each time they went to a fast food restaurant and so if they go over their caloric intake or if they have consumed too much fatty food they would not be allowed to order anymore for that day, and the same for alcohol, tobacco, and junk food stores. All healthy foods would not be subjected to the food cards. Each person’s food card information should be kept on a computer as well.
The only way America is going to see a decrease in obesity is if the foods causing the problems are taken away from the people, since it is hard for many to control their intakes of these fatty foods, or if the food consumption is policed and people not allowed to eat how much of the fatty food as they want.
